The hot chocolate was actually amazing , the head ache to order, then pay for it….. not worth it.
Started off where the barista obviously knew what I meant (traditional dart small hot chocolate) but because I didn’t say “Spanish hot chocolate” it became a truly condescending interaction where he has to “dumb it down to me”…. Like felt the sneed to describe to be the difference between white hot chocolate , and dark hot chocolate . Just really awkward . It reminded me of when you ask a barista at Starbucks for a large coffee, and they ask you if you mean Venti, and go away too far into detail, pretending like they did not understand the word “large”
So then, when I tried to pay, my bill was only $5.71 cents (maybe $5.73? I know it was the smallest size available)….. the same barista tried to give me 21 in quarters and few Pennie’s as change . . . I politely asked if I could get dollars back instead of quarters. He looks confused, then continued to give me back my change in whole dollars, but the $.71-$.73 was paid back to me and nickels and pennies… That’s when I realized it is a tip scam.
When you go into here, ask for your largest amount of dollars, and coin tips back… they have it . Otherwise they will give you an obnoxious amount of coins, and ones with the hope that you will put it in the tip jar . It’s a common practice between and baristas, but they went all in . . . They believe that if they give you all of your change back in coins, you are more likely to throw them in the tip jar because you don’t want to deal the obnoxiousness
I didn’t think it was a scam when he originally tried to give me all the quarters… But after I asked for ones, and he gave me the rest of my change in .05 and .01 increments, I realized what was going on.
I still tipped a dollar, but I really...
Read moreFinally got a chance to stop in and try some goodies here. Stuffed churros were actually pretty good, my favorite was the nutella filled churro, she had the dulce de leche and liked it. I also got 2 chocolate covered pistachio drizzled churros, not a huge fan of the chocolate, very strong cocoa flavor, has a bitter coffee grounds flavor. Gotta get 2 minimum, so kind of a waste. Should maybe switch to a la carte so visitors can try individual flavors instead being locked into 2 minimum.
Also ordered both versions of the hot chocolate: white and spanish. White was pretty good, spanish was like the chocolate churros bitter and very strong cocoa flavor and not sweet.
The young girl helping us was working alone, friendly but somewhat clueless or not helpful in helping us make a decision by describing items on the menu properly.
As for reviewers complaning about prices: $27 with taxes and tip for 4 churros and 2 hot drinks is about right in line with the times we live in and the fact this is...
Read moreMy kids and I took a quick trip on the gondola to walk around downtown Breckenridge after a day of skiing. The kids were craving donuts. Daylight Donuts was closed since it was 4:40 pm at that point, but we walked past this shop twice and stopped when we discovered it was open. We ordered the dark chocolate topped donuts and Nutella topped donuts. The kids (ages 8 to 12) were impressed that the donuts were fried up fresh and hot and were SO good. They were kind of like donut holes in size, which is good because they are rich! The little shop was charming and would be a cozy spot for a donut and coffee. The couple (the owners?) working the store were friendly and service was quick. The hot fried chocolate-y donuts hit the spot on a cold afternoon, and it was one of my kids' favorite parts...
