There are some great places to visit as far as scenery around Brookings, but if you like sweets and quality donuts, you need to stop at Honeybee Bakery. We were in Brookings a little over a week ago. I have been to many bakeries, we literally plan vacations around bakeries. These are some of the best donuts I have ever had. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or taste buds in this case, but stand outs for me were the crueller (a beautifully created, airy delight that has the perfect blend of ingredients, truly the best one I have ever had), the chocolate cake donut (but you have to get the glazed one), the cinnamon twist (I thought what could be so special about a cinnamon twist when I read the positive reviews, this is unlike any other I have had), and the apple fritter (this is not the best apple fritter I have ever had, that was in Washington, outside of Tacoma, but I would gladly eat this any day and I am very picky about my fritters). Congratulations to all those who prepare these. Would you consider overnighting donuts if I pay the overnight fee (I...
Read moreEvery once in a while, we are fortunate to discover a small business getting it all right! Spencer, Owner and Baker/Chef extraordinaire, prepares some of the best baked goods we've experienced, Anywhere. Anywhere! Really!
Looking into the case of deliciousness, once can see each item is given proper care, and looks as if it was made to display, and tastes even better.
There is a wide variety of incredibly fresh and some quite unique choices. I enjoyed a candied ginger scone. What?? The taste intersection of the ginger and the scone was sublime.
And, Real Actual Croissant. Not the sad interpretations one normally finds, but actual properly developed and baked croissant.
The bakery opens at 6AM (closed Tuesday and Wednesdays). The smart shopper gets there very early, especially Friday and Saturdays, where the bakery sells out rather early.
We will return when visiting the area...

Went in, on Memorial day (their busiest time of the year per workers/ owners), selection was slim due to the parade, but got the blueberry fritter, cinnamon roll, glazed filled with raspberry, and glazed with custard and blueberries. All of it was great, and cooked nicely as well (having been a baker for a few years myself)
It was a bit hard to find, there's a sign across the street catty corner that said parking in back, donuts across the street. The door was at an angle into the buildings front that made it hard to find if you don't know where to look.
Very small on the inside, no sitting that I saw.
The staff was nice, friendly, and quick.
Coming back, this will be the place in town weer...
