West Coast Sourdough - Placerville — Restaurant in California

Food was great but service was lacking and unprofessional. Came in at 7:35pm to location closing at 8pm. Three young employees inside looked "concerned" someone had come in. Guy asked what my order was, then asked female employees if they had the ingredients and paused. They just looked at him because they couldn't say out loud, "stop trying to fake we don't have it so we don't have to serve this person". I know these looks and tactics well from when I was a young person in customer service, so feel confident it wasn't my imagination. Though I still kept an open mind and said -maybe it is. Don't assume. The rest of experience confirmed it though.

Wanted to use restroom just to wash my hands but it was locked. When I asked about it, they said the restroom was closed for the night. That means it was locked before I came in and at least half an hour before closing. So people coming to eat at a restaurant can't wash their hands before eating. I was going to ask for my order to-go, so be I could be out of the restaurant because I've been there before and wanted them to be able to clean and go home. But they didn't give me any choice. I was not asked and my order was made to-go automatically.

Another customer came in as I was leaving at 7:43 and asked about the bathroom. Was told they are closing in ten minutes which was a lie and bathroom was closed for the night.Even if you rounded off the time, it would be either 7:40 or 7:45 at the latest. They succeeded in getting him to leave and not place an order.

Since it was a nice night, I decided to eat at one of the outside tables. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the male employee stood around and did nothing but talk to the other employees the rest of the time.

At 7:55 the inside lights were turned completely off inside and the kids were waiting inside till they could officially leave. 8:00pm sharp the were all outside and...

Girls are always so sweet. Love coming here and I just love the turkey pastrami! Edited! Still feel that same about the friendliness of the employees however since my first visit its been horrible. I don't know why I continue to go back - perhaps me thinking it would get better .... um NO. Fist time I ordered the Mac Mac cheese it was delicious second time disgusting- tasted chalky and powdery almost old (I'm surprised we didn't get food poisoning). Before I ordered it the second time I made sure I asked if it was fresh. Employee told me "To be honest, it looks disgusting and has been sitting there all day". Oh okay I'll pass on that then. So I went ahead and ordered the veggie soup (employee said it was currently cooling down.... um okay) but instead all that was given was juice (given a spoon for what!) and no slice of bread was given either. On previous visits I wasn't given my pickle - what's a sourdough sandwich without a pickle?! It just goes downhill from there. My sandwich was always good and tasted fresh (turkey pastrami my favorite) unfortunately I will not be returning to this location and who knows maybe none since I've been getting bad experiences. I just moved to the area and have always enjoyed a good sandwich for lunch. Luckily this place is close to work. Gave them a try today and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a 4" turkey and a cup of mac n cheese using the online ordering. It was waiting for me by the time I got there even though the website said 20-25 minutes. This is fine for most things but by the time I got back, the mac n cheese had cooled a bit. Next time I will just drive and order and skip ordering online.

The sandwich was good, plenty of meat and toppings in ratio to the bread. The bread is the star for sure. I am a little disappointed that pepperoncinis are extra, most places they are included as a free optional topping. I am also puzzled as to how the extra topping prices are the same no matter what size sandwich you order. If you get an 8" sandwich the added bacon should cost 2x the amount of the bacon for a 4". I'd love to see a "California" sandwich, turkey, bacon, avocado.

The mac n cheese, even though it was a little colder than I'd prefer was delicious.

I will be returning for sure and trying other...
