We called 5-10 min before arrival and was told there was availability for our party of 3. We were greeted at the door, and had it opened for us. We were promptly seated after a brief wait while a table was reset for us. I liked what they have done with the space, it was very comfortable and the dining room was very nice. The waitress hurried through the specials but when we asked questions, the explanations were thorough. We had never been before but the entire menu looked appetizing, we had a hard time choosing. This is rare for us in Brevard County. I had the chorizo crusted seabass, avocado mash and asparagus. My wife had the Weiner Schnitzel with green beans and spaetzel. My daughter had the stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and geen beans. We also had a bottle of Pinot Grigio, which was very good for its price. We did not have appetizers but my daughter had the soup of the day, pasta fagioli, my wife had the house salad and I had the ceasar. Bread and butter arrived with the salads, it looked to me like ciabatta, but was in pull apart rolls instead of a loaf. I enjoyed the bread and the butter, different from other restaurants that serve bread but also familiar. My daughter enjoyed the soup, I did not try it. My ceasar with wonderful and you can tell the difference in a fresh dressing vs premade. Also I was offered fresh ground pepper and I appreciated the bite size lettuce, you could tell that it was done right. The only minor gripe regarding my wifes salad, was one piece of lettuce was brown, obviously missed by the salad guy. It was presented very nicely for a house salad and the blue cheese dressing was terrific! I did not notice a wait for the entrees, my wife and I enjoyed looking at the decor and the only downside of the dining room was that it was very loud. It was half full and everyone was in full on chat enjoying their evening so you cant blame them, but still, quite loud. The entrees came beautifully presented. My wife was a bit perplexed as to why the spatzel did not come on the same plate as the schnitzel, this is not a complaint but an observation. The portion of the schnitzel was twice what she could handle and at first glance I thought it was a piece of fish, for fish and chips. It was cooked wonderfully and not dry at all. The spaetzel were not her favorite, I had already ruined her with my homemade version and this one seemed like it needed salt. The green beans, blanched I am sure, then quickly sauteed in garlic something with mushrooms...were overpowered with garlic and not cooked enough, still quite tough. My daughters green beans were not as strongly garliced, and cooked the same. Its just a preference thing for us and would not prevent us from coming back. My daughters stuffed chicken was really good, the nibble I was allowed. My entree, the Seabass was wonderfully presented, and the flavor was outstanding. I really appreciated the fine mince of chorizo in the bread crumb crust and even the avocado mashed potatoes were quite delicious. My asparagus was cooked perfectly as was the fish. Then we asked about desert, again we had to ask for a repeat of the offerings and settled on the peanutbutter cheesecake bites dipped in chocolate and the Lemon cake with I think raspberry buttercream, it was pink. You get 3 "bites" served with caramel swipes on the plates but it took all 3 of us to finish them. The cake came out in a small jelly jar, complete with hanky and screw on lids. It reminded me of when Seasons 52 came out with deserts layered in shot glasses..it was a nice try but the cake was a bit dry. It was a weird presentation and sometimes that is half the fun. The longest we had to wait for anything was the check, but our waitress had four tables by that time and again the wife and I chatted and finally noticed some nuances like the wine corks in the chair rails that surrounded the room. I cannot wait to return to try something else, this was an above average experience for us in Brevard County and FINALLY somewhere else to go for great food and service that is not...
Read moreOver all it wasn't a bad experience but it's not exactly what I was expecting. I ordered a couple of the specials, the mini beef Wellingtons and steak with a mushroom and Jameson demi sauce. The Wellingtons were plated nicely but the bottom of the pastry was still raw and unfortunately the beef inside was well done. The mushroom duxell was stuffed in the middle of the beef and unfortunately very under seasoned and the beef had a very gamey flavor to it. Over all it wasn't bad but not what I was expecting. We didn't finish those and the table was cleared. The server asked if we would like another round of wine which we said yes. The salads arrived and I was surprised at how small they were even for a side salad. Perhaps a cup of mix greens with a half a cherry tomato and sprinkle of shredded carrots. The dressing was a roasted sweet onion I believe and flowing over the top of the ramekin. It was good but way to much for the amount of actual salad I received. My steak arrived with garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and the demi sauce on the side. It was all piled on top of each other with steak still bleeding. Covering the mashed potatoes in blood. I cut in to the steak and it was cooked perfectly to medium rare but very under seasoned. With no salt or pepper on the table and my server no where to be found I began to look around the restaurant. I caught the attention of another employee and ask her for my wine I had ordered 20 minutes prior and some salt and pepper. My server reappears a few minutes later with what I had requested thankfully. The sauce for the steak had a very strange flavor it almost tasted like it had freezer burn and just wasn't very appetizing. I mentioned it to the server and he asked if I would like to have something else. I declined due to the amount of time I had already waited to start eating. Overall it wasn't a bad experience and perhaps I just made the wrong choice by ordering specials instead of off the regular menu. But the seasoning level (or lack there of) of all the food was just way off across the board. I feel that this place has a lot of great potential and I may have just caught them on an off night. I plan to try this place again but at $100 that evening it makes me a bit hesitant.
Reply My experience was several weeks ago so this had nothing to do with your sous. I did let my server know about the food its why he offered to get me something else. But due to the amount bif time it took to even get him back to my table I wasn't in the mood for something else. To me a good restaurant shouldn't fix errors after they've occurred. They need to be tasting band checking everything before it is ever sent out in the...
Read moreI do recognize that I was one of “those people” who walked into this restaurant 35 minutes before close, but I have always enjoyed Sage and thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. However, when I walked in the restaurant, I was immediately made to feel unwelcome.
Upon entering, I asked the two women at the front desk for a table for 2. They said they would let the hostess know. Then interrupting the Chef’s Mother/ Hostess from her meal and cocktail at the bar, I asked for a table of 2 and her response was to say that the kitchen may already be closing down (30 minutes before closing) and she would check if they could serve us as if it was an inconvenience. She proceeded to the back and then re-emerged with a two thumbs up. We would have sat at the bar to be easier, but there were dirty dishes all over the bar so we decided to sit at a table. The hostess then had to check for a cleared and set table. There were only three other tables that had people sitting at them, yet she has to check for a clean table.
Oddly enough, back in early March, I came in on a Tuesday with my parents just as they were opening and was turned away because I didn’t have reservations and there were no openings until later that evening.
Then to top off tonight’s experience is that, about 5 minutes after they “closed”, another gentleman came in and sat at the bar, no questions asked and was immediately handed a menu. Apparently if you are “locals” or regulars, you are more welcomed than if they don’t recognize you.
If they had just sat us and said, due our late arrival, there may be some menu items unavailable, my review would be totally different. I would 100% understand and still feel welcomed and appreciated their service. Now I know I’ll never be back and I know they won’t care because it’s the locals that matter.
And our meals were just okay. Not memorable. If the meals were exceptional that may have been something. But at least our server was nice and courteous and didn’t act like it was a rush to get us out. Having said that, we were in and...
