Lupita's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Cedar City

Second time here at Lupitas. A very busy location, a few minutes wait is pretty standard here. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time, offered menus and the usual house chips and salsa, which was delicious. Our server, was playful, polite and initially was attentive. Our food came out quicker than I expected, all the dishes we ordered were hot and correct. I ordered the 3 item combo, a crispy chicken taco, a cheese enchilada, and what was some type of meat tamale, I thought it was supposed to be beef, but I think was actually pork, but ok. The taco was the best part, crispy and full of ingredients, my only gripe was, the menu DID NOT describe the contents of the taco, which included guacamole, which I am allergic to, I scraped off what I could, covered it up with the house salsa, it was good. The enchilada, was a bit dense, not sure if it was because of the type cheese they used or if the tortilla was just too thick, but ok. The tamale, was thick, made it a little too dry, the masa lacked any real flavor, the meat inside, supposed to be beef, but was actually pork, but ok. My companions had similar types of experiences with theie dishes, but all in all, we were generally satisfied with what we got. My gripe, our server, was extremely busy, which was not her fault, the restaurant was at capacity, my guess is not enough staff on schedule, which I understand is hard nowadays, due to the economy or whatever. Our server just couldn't get back to us enough, to let her be able to correct things like the guacamole in my taco, my friend's issue with his items and my other friend his lack of water for 15 minutes, but I digress... Like I initially stated, this is my second visit, and I am certain that future visits are in my future, as the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses, I'm willing to overlook what I chalk up to...

If given the choice I would not come here again. We went As a party of 12 and told the waitress from the start we wanted 4 different checks.We all ordered drinks at the same time and then we were deciding on what to get since we had never been there before. It took about 10 min to get our drinks I ordered the horchata which. Was not bad and came in a decent serving. Nex about 15 min in we got chips and salsa. We were all sitting at thesame table and we were only brought 2 small baskets of chips. We weren't to focus on the chips that we got since they were just kind of an appetizer you could say. So we proceeded to order our food and we did notice that the waitress was kind of knew not a downer but you know it just took a little bit more time to take down the food and she did receive help from I believe was the manager which was nice. We all ordered at the same time so we were kind of expecting that our food was going to come out in bunches at the same time. That was not the case we received a couple plates about 20 minutes and then we received like condiments for the other food that we had, and then we received more plates by the time everybody got their food the people who got their food first were already finished some of the food was cold and the food was not at all how we expected it to taste. I was one of the ones that received the food almost last and I ordered eggs over medium and receive very sunny side up eggs which I returned . The menudo was very thick and very very red not not typical or Mexican at all. The rice was dried out and some of the food we received was cold like the beans. The wait staff to have seem very unorganized and fumble through all of our experience there. I would recommend that if you have another choice you go...

Apr 19, 2024 ★ ★ What a shame, the place has slipped down to the rock bottom. I ordered their birria plate, it was so bad I could not finish it. First of all it was not even birria. The meat was cut into small cubes, looked like the beef they might use for beef tacos, was hard to chew, tasteless as a cardboard, totally inedible. They are skimping on everything now, even on rice and refried beans. When I asked some extra rice, the waitress brought a decent size plate and had failed to mention that it would be an extra charge. I’m lucky that I also had ordered 2 lengua tacos (tongue), they were alright. I will attach the picture of their birria now. Please, compare it with the picture I uploaded a couple years ago.

10-24-21 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Came back and, since I was very hungry, ordered their beef birria and a carne asada. It was a mistake cause I totally forgot that their portions are really big. The other mistake I made, I did not check the menu. And instead of ordering their Mexican steak I ordered carne asada. It was totally my fault but Lupita did not have any problem and kindly replaced it. Both, the birria and the steak, were tasty, decent size. They provide really fast and friendly service. All this for very affordable price. Definitely recommending and will be back whenever passing by. 9-30-21 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My first time here, and I regret that have just found them.
