Solo visit during Saturday Brunch. I was warmly welcomed by more than one staff member and given a choice of seating options. I picked a bar table by an open window to enjoy the nice weather. The Brunch menu was heavy on breakfast choices and light on lunch items, but all looked appetizing. As it was after 1PM, so I opted for the burger and a brunch special beverage. My drink arrived in the blink of an eye, and my food wasn't that far behind! The burger was generous, cooked a perfect medium and served with just-crispy-enough fries that seemed to be a mix of regular and sweet potato sprinkled with wonderfully coarse salt. My server (and the rest of the staff) were attentive and friendly. When the bill arrived, there were two "bottom line" amounts - Cash and Credit. I have complained about this practice in a review about another restaurant. In that case, the amounts listed on the bill were higher than the menu price and the higher Credit price was prominent on the bill with a Cash price listed below in smaller print. That practice didn't sit well with me. Quite the opposite here. The billed amount matched the menu prices and the amount due added up. Under that amount, in larger print was a statement explaining the credit surcharge policy and showing the higher Credit price. Such a small difference in presentation, but one that wasn't as offensive to me. That being said, I very much enjoyed the food and the experience and look forward to...
Read moreCame here for the first time based on a 4.6 Google review. Not sure how this place was rated this high. Food: I had biscuits and gravy, thinking that I am in the South and that would be a good choice. Biscuit was sweet, and the gravy was salty. The fried chicken was just small overcooked pieces of chicken sprinkled with red pepper flakes. The two eggs on top were over medium and not over easy. My wife had the avocado toast. She found it underwhelming and it was served with honey and strawberries on top (Is this a SC thing?). Coffee was good, but cream was brought in a small ramekin that easily spilled. And there was no spoon in the cutlery set, so she stirred with a knife.
Service: young man had a lack of Southern hospitality and seemed indifferent to us being there. Forgot to bring a side of bacon. We had to request coffee refills and the cups came with coffee running down the sides. His female colleague was much more cheery and actually asked if we needed anything.
Atmosphere: This seems more like a college bar that has decided to try and do brunch. We ate on the patio at a wobbly table with a noisy fan blowing.
Overall: Very disappointing for $40 brunch...
Read moreThe food was excellent. The head chef is Alfredo and it was clear he genuinely cares that customers are happy. He brought out much of the food himself and asked if we needed anything else.
Our server was initially put off that I wanted separate checks for our party, which I stated when we began ordering. When I made the reservation, I said we were a party of 15 with 13 students and 2 adults. There is no way a teacher would have students split a check. If this was an inconvenience that should have been stated when I called.
While paying, there was some confusion and the server became agitated and rude and was eventually snatching tickets from students in his frustration. The manager came out and resolved things.
When I was speaking with the manager afterwards, he kept trying to talk over me with pleasantries instead of listening to what I was saying. The manager attempted to distract me from discussing the issues with our visit by asking about our school, what things we were doing in Charleston, and my name. He didn’t want to fully engage in a conversation about the shortcoming of the restaurant.
Again, hats off to Alfredo and his kitchen staff. The...
