We went to Eddie V’s for my “obligatory” fancy birthday dinner… HORRIBLE experience…
We arrived for our 9:00 p.m. reservation at least 5 minutes early. We checked in and were asked to wait at the wine cabinet to be seated.
ETA: As we were walking to the wine cabinet, I noticed the sanitation score: 91 (I knew we should have left then! My husband even asked if we should just go ahead and leave).
We waited for at least 10 minutes (after 9) and were apologized to several times (the hostess asked if we wanted a table right at the front by the door. My husband was told over the phone we would get a special table for my birthday, and the location of the offered table was not ideal- so we continued to wait).
We were finally seated - downstairs in a small, crowded room. The table was cute enough, there was confetti.
Our waiter came over and, though he was nice enough, I have never had someone at an upscale restaurant try to upsell me so much (at all even). From the water, to additional food items… EVERYTHING was to get us to spend more money.
We looked over the menu - it is what you would expect from a restaurant such as this. I decided on the Jumbo Gulf Shrimp and my husband wanted the 8 oz center cut filet with Jumbo Gulf Shrimp. We decided we’d share the Au Gratin Cheddar Potatoes.
When our waiter came back for our order, I told him I wanted the Jumbo Gulf Shrimp. His response was “that comes with a lobster tail or scallops”. I asked him to repeat himself to make sure I didn’t misunderstand. He came closer to me and said the same thing. It isn’t that I don’t understand wanting to upsell, but his phrasing was a little off putting. Even still, I ended up getting the lobster tail (I had already decided I would get it, but his approach made me question that decision).
When our waiter finished taking our order he said the kitchen was “having a rough night” and said he’d get our food out as soon as possible.
When our food came, my plate was correct (Jumbo Gulf Shrimp and Lobster Tail - though the garlic butter was not on the plate). My husband’s plate only came out with his steak, no shrimp. Our waiter apologized and went to retrieve the shrimp.
My husband ordered his steak medium well. The steak was more on the medium rare side. Our waiter took the steak back to the kitchen. They brought the same steak back (not a problem) but it was well over well-done.
He asked him to just take the steak off. Our waiter asked if he wanted anything else from the menu. My husband said he was fine and our waiter responded “got full off the potatoes, huh?”
The food didn’t taste good at all. The seafood was all overcooked (the lobster tail and the shrimp). The potatoes were decent, not great.
By the time we approached the end of dinner, we were just so ready to go. Our waiter brought us the dessert menu, but we told him we were okay without dessert.
He gave us our check, we paid, and we got up to leave.
On the way out of the restaurant, we heard our waiter telling one of his coworkers- “it was just all bad”… Unfortunately, we couldn’t have...
Read moreFirst and foremost. Thank you for making my mom's birthday week so enjoyable. From the beginning our experience was excellent. We came for the Preview Night event. We were greeted at the door and were ushered into the lobby where the hostess welcomed us and gave us the option to go to the bar for a drink first or be immediately seated. I had made my reservation with Gem who was the hostess that seated us and I thanked her for helping me find a reservation time and date that for both my mom's and my schedule. Tyler was our waiter and he was attentive and knew just wanted to suggest for my mom. There was a live band playing and I asked one of the staff who they were Dominica ( i apologize if I misspelled) relayed the artist was AJ Degrassi from California. He covered all genres of song while still allowing table conversation to happen without having to raise our voices. I hope there will be weekly live music. The atmosphere is upscale but thembience is relaxed. They have local craft beers available. I had OMB's Hornet's Nest. My mom had their Red Dragon cocktail- definitely recommend. I don't know if it was because it was preview night or not but at Eddie V's there is no skimping on portion sizes. We started with gulf shrimp cocktails and calamari. The calamari could've been an entree itself. It had a Asian glaze sauce with Asian cabbage and carrot mixed in . There's also cashews so nut allergies be advised. Next were our entrees: Parmesan crusted sole with veggies and Bacon wrapped filet with Alaska King Crab and asparagus. I kid you not every bite was flavorful and cooked so well. Truffle Mac & Cheese: Definitely do it. Again the portion sizes are plenty so we asked Tyler to box up the remaining for tomorrow. We ended with a Banana Butter Cream Cake- decadent and sweet! Added bonus it comes with a scoop butter pecan ice cream. My mom was trying to figure out the recipe to make at home. It was an awesome experience at Eddie V's. My mom and I plan to come back as a special treat every year. The price point is much higher than the average restaurant but the the experience is worth it from the welcoming hostesses, attentive staff, delicious drinks, savory entrees and decadent deserts. I would definitely recommend Eddie V's Please be advised there are a lot of steps; there is low lighting to add to the ambience so watch your steps. Also the bathroom is downstairs. I'm not sure if there is another bathroom near the bar and the...
Read moreWe recently tried Eddie V's Prime Seafood for a few reasons, one we see the restaurant all the time when we're in downtown Charlotte and the second is it's was my daughter's birthday and she is all things jazz and great food. So I checked out the reviews which were great, made a reservation and even called the restaurant to ask a few questions because I didn't want there to be any issues with the reservation.
The hostess who answered the phone was very nice, professional and courteous and she made sure that we got the seats we wanted. She explained how the restaurant is set up and the how seating works. When the night of our reservations comes, we're definitely excited and my daughter has not idea that we're going to a restaurant that plays jazz. We were quickly greeted and seated within a matter of moments and the seat had a perfect view of the band just as i requested.
Now, unfortunately this is where things go downhill and it's because of our server. I won't mention her name out of respect, what I will say is that she was slow to check on us, keep us updated and we didn't see her that often even though we were at the restaurant for 2 1/2 hours. She was polite, professional and courteous but being absent was bad. I will say if we weren't enjoying the music from the band, we probably would've left.
With that being said, the appetizer of Calamari was delicious. As a matter of fact, all of the food we ordered met our expectations and to point out some of the highlights. The 10 oz Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection, the truffle macaroni and cheese was some of the best I've ever had, the mashed potatoes were creamy, very well seasoned, delicious. My wife had the Maine Lobster Tacos and absolutely loved them.
The band was great and played many popular songs and they took requests as well. They played four songs for my daughter after she requested and they were definitely one of the highlight of the evening. Overall, we had a wonderful time, the food was exceptional and the only we could've ask for was for the service to be better. My daughter, took it all in stride and didn't let the slow service...
