They mean well. Good location but ordering online didn't absolve me from errors.
No gravy and got gravy. Estimated pickup meant nothing. I was 13minutes later than the ETA and Uber alert saying it should be ready but he was just making the plates.
Here's the thing .. it's not cooked to order so how and why is there such a delay?? No idea. Anywhooz they go down a cafeteria line of prepared food items and place them in a Togo container.
Chicken is dark meat ONLY. He placed gravy over the food and I could see him thinking that's when I confirmed it was my order. He apologized but I got the sense money must be tight or food waste is off the charts or they are just tight. No idea but I asked how did such happen ....it's in wirting. No gravy on anything (I got 2 plates).
He said muscle memory. I'm like but you're reading the ticket. At any rate, I conceded and took the plate as I figured I could give it away to the hubs. Guess what? He didn't want that gravy either.
Grateful for Wisconsin and Louisiana establishments doesn't do gravy as I first saw such in Chicago South suburbs.
In all, the plantains were tough. I like a sweet plantain that's macerated and sat with some char because they are even better. These were just tough. The dark meat will never be for me. The rice and beans were decent but again not fresh and hot out of the pot. Just in a warmer. Huge piece of ginger was found in mother's rice and peas.
I thought I'd return for grilled fish but hubs said for $30 we can throw it on our own grill.
Hope others find enjoyment but it didn't land with us. I didn't see any dine in options meaning no tables or...
Read moreHave a couple bones to pick… out of my rice. Have been going to the N Tryon location since 2016. Their new university location is 10 minutes closer to me rather than going 20 minutes. I was excited to try the new place. I order my usual BBQ jerk chicken, collards, and macaroni small size. I ordered this last weekend. I am not exaggerating it was 3 pieces of bone with a few bites of meet then constant bones I’m having to pull out of my mouth and even my rice while eating it’s like they take one piece and smash the bone into two pieces. (The only reason why I can think there is so many chips of bone in the rice) The taste was oddly off from what I’m used to as well which was the most disappointing. I figure the new location in university thinks they can get away with cutting corners like this because they don’t have the same customers as the OG Irie. Maybe they truly are trying to budget this new location due to already having N Tryon location. Well I wasn’t satisfied and still wanted what I’ve always known as Irie Nation. I went to OG today on N Tryon and got the same small sized meal and wow the chicken is huge, juicy, succulent, amazing flavor, perfect smoky flavor on the inside, just mouth watering PER USUAL for the North tryon location. It’s obvious that whoever is in charge of the new location is a bit greedy and isn’t following the OG way otherwise my first time at the new wouldn’t have been awful. I had such high hopes. Just drive the extra 10-15 minutes to north tryon. University’s reviews do not lie. I’ll drive the extra distance for...
Read moreThis was the worst Jamaican food I have ever eaten. I ordered the large Curry Chicken w/plantains and a beef patty. My husband ordered oxtails, but they were out so he settled for the large Curry Goat w/candied yams and a chicken patty. The rice and peas were terrible. The rice was old, and hard, the peas were not cooked, hard like pebbles, and the pinto beans were also not cooked correctly. Our patties were old, hard around the edges. My plantains were not golden brown, they were black and disgusting. This food was too expensive for the terrible experience. The young man that took our order was not friendly at all. Authentic Jamaican food can only be found in Jamaica. This was such a...
