Townsend Atelier — Attraction in Chattanooga

I've taken two workshops in the last year at Townsend Atelier, even though I live 500 miles away. It is such a great place, I can't even think of one suggestion to improve it. An absolutely beautiful space with lovely old wooden floors, great light and high ceilings ... every artist's dream studio. All the equipment you might need to make art comfortably and conveniently is on hand - tables for your palette, easels, clamp-on lights, a model stand, wifi, even floor mats if your feet start to hurt from standing all day. This atelier has a constant stream of renowned visiting instructors to learn from as well as excellent ones in-town. They also have their own small-but-serious art store inside the Atelier so if you're coming from out of town, you don't have to stress about forgetting to pack a palette knife or running out of paint. And best of all, Townsend Atelier is owned and run by Peggy -- the smartest, nicest, most thoughtful, patient and helpful person you'd ever want to meet. I have been both a student and an instructor at Townsend Atelier and couldn't ask for a better experience from either perspective. Peggy and Stan Townsend go above and beyond to make sure everyone is welcome in their warm and friendly space and to provide each student with what he or she needs.
