My family and I had been loyal customers to Sanford's for years until now. We attended a retirement party for one of our friends on 9/15/23 and had the entire basement rented out. When we went to order food our waitress, Katrina, told us that the party was on a limited menu so if we wanted to order from the regular menu, we would have to go upstairs. So, my husband and I go upstairs and we were immediately met with attitude and aggression from the barmaids, Paisley and Brynn. While trying to place our order, they kept telling us that the wait time was getting longer, the kitchen is full, etc (doing anything they possibly can to not take our order). Finally, they told us they were no longer taking orders (even though orders kept coming in- we watched servers adding orders into the pos system). When we finally got frustrated and asked for a manager, they REFUSED to put our order in at all.
The manager, Megan, came out and recognized that we are regular customers, apologized and then told us she would make sure the kitchen made our food. She goes and talks to the kitchen, comes out and says "the kitchen refuses to make this order. They are too busy". While she was there, Megan witnessed Paisley being extremely aggressive and rude to ANOTHER customer. I told her to watch her behavior and when Paisley saw us all observing her, she walked over and started yelling at us in front of Megan! The "manager" did absolutely nothing about it!! So, after over an hour of just trying to order food, we left. Us and our children missed our retirement party because Sanford's made it impossible. To make matters worse, we were the ONLY members of our party to be REFUSED food and service.
The next day my husband and I called to speak to the owner. We go in and are met by Julian Yates who is all but a child at maybe 20 years old. He greets my husband but completely ignores me. I actually had to ask him to speak somewhere privately because he stood having this sensitive discussion in the front doorway of the restaurant in front of customers. We explain what happened. Julian came up with nothing but excuses; "he's been gone for the summer", "they had a rough night" "they were busy and in bad moods", etc. We even had explained that his staff treated us this way in front of his "manager" Megan. He offered us free food, etc. the problem is, we didn't care about the food. We cared and were expressing our concerns about how we were treated with disrespect and flat out refused service for no reason. I explained to Julian that if I treated my clients this way, I wouldn't have a job. Julian's solution? He asked us to LEAVE because my comment was "confrontational". I asked for his fathers phone number who is the real owner, and he told me "you can call, but he is never here".
While we were leaving, we noticed a new picture of a slavery plantation proudly hung up in the hallway. When it was brought up to Julian he said "that's how we show our southern hospitality" and he walked away!! We were speechless and disgusted by his response. Our family was the only family at our retirement party who have people of color. Now we completely understand why we were refused service. We were singled out and targeted by Sanford's staff.
Clearly, Sanford's is ran by the servers, not by the managers or owner. If you want amazing service, great food and a place who doesn't discriminate against your family or single you out, do not go here. We will never step foot in this place again.
To the owner, Mr.Jim Yates- Do better at being a present business owner and make sure your staff, acting owner and managers are properly trained. You should also take down that slavery plantation picture. SHAME ON YOU FOR DISPLAYING THAT AND YOUR SON STATING ITS HOW YOU SHOW YOUR SOUTHERN HOSPTALITY. My husband is a retired United States Marine, and an African American man, who fought for your freedom of speech to be so utterly disgusting and disrespectful. Do better and don't let children run...
Read moreWhile driving across I-80 with my Beautiful Bride and our youngest, we saw a sign for a “Testicle Festival.” Given the area at the time, we figured it was probably turkey, but it sparked a conversation about the Rocky Mountain variety. That eventually led us to finding Sanford’s Grub & Pub as we passed through Cheyenne. My bride and youngest had never tried them before, so we figured, why not?
We arrived during the dinner rush and waited about 25 minutes, not bad considering how packed the place was. The interior was an eclectic, nostalgic feast for the eyes, with something interesting on every wall.
The menu was extensive, almost overwhelming, with a Cajun influence and plenty of mouthwatering choices. They also had a large draft beer selection and specialty cocktails. We ordered a soda for the kiddo, a beer for me, and a huckleberry margarita for my Bride, along with an appetizer of oysters and fries (still keeping the surprise from our youngest).
The oysters and fries came out hot, served with brown gravy and cocktail sauce on the side. The breading was the dominant flavor, and the texture was the traditional, for lack of a better word, "calamari" feel. I thought they were tasty. My bride found the breading a bit heavy, while our youngest enjoyed them… until we revealed what they were. After that, he said they were “just okay,” though he kept eating them!
For our main dish, my bride and I split the “Hot As& Miss Piggy” with sweet potato fries. Thankfully, our waitress let us know it usually comes topped with powdered sugar and honey butter. We opted out of the sugar and got the butter on the side.
The pork and beef were both flavorful, and the patty was cooked to order. The sauce and cheese made it a bit too spicy for my bride, but I enjoyed it. We both agreed on a menu this big, a straight-up pulled pork sandwich would be a great addition.
The sweet potato fries were delicious on their own, but dipping them in the honey butter added a fun twist. We were still glad we got it on the side.
Our youngest ordered a smash burger with onion rings. The burger was well-seasoned and cooked to order—simple and tasty. The onion rings were piled high, lightly breaded, a little greasy, but still good.
All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. Between the food, the drinks, and the décor, there’s so much going on at Sanford’s that it would take multiple visits to...
Read moreThis restaurant has so many decorations you'll find yourself bewildered by everything you see if it's your first time here. There's also a bunch of TVs so if you're looking for a place to watch whatever game you should be able to watch it here.
There's a total of 55 beers on tap! That's absolutely wild. I'd love to go through all the one's I haven't tried. Some of the beers will be served in a mason jar and it'll be big. My partner ordered a bud light in said jar and it only cost $4! There's also a large list of cocktails. I tried the Mai Tai as I was feeling a bit crazy and because all cocktails are $1 cheaper on Saturdays.
For food I ordered the House of Voodoo Tips with mashed tatters. It came with a choice of soup and a choice of corn or black-eyed peas. I was totally unaware of the soup (as far as I could tell it didn't mention it on the menu) but glad I had it. The Gumbo soup was delicious. The Voodoo Tips and peas were also very tasty but they give you so much I couldn't finish it.
My partner ordered the Who Dat Steak Sirloin Down Yonder. This came with a choice of many sides. Whilst being very delicious she absolutely loved the cinnamon butter that was given on the side.
Keep in mind, the portions are enormous. Thankfully, we were able to take away all our leftovers.
Service was quick and wonderful which made the whole experience better. We needed quite a bit of time to go through the menu as it was HUGE. The waitress was very patient and helpful on any questions we had.
Staff do not wear masks and there's no real social distancing enforced as far as we could tell. However, I think this may be a...
