SUNDAY JULY 21 510 PM EST CHRISTIANSBURG VA. An area afflicted heavily by Progressive Genetic Regression.
This was the first time I had eaten out since July of 2015..
First time visitor at Mission. I was very hungry and mobility limited due to not being able to drive a car as a result of a few injuries, albeit from long ago. Mission was right there in the vicinity of where I was doing business on foot. The people working there were very nice, except for one, who apparently was made to stay in the back. Maybe he was just having a hard day and being punished.
Two very young nice people waited on me. A very lovely full figured blonde haired girl maybe 18 to 20 years old and a young man...perhaps 20 ish. I dont know their names Nobody there had name tags....probably due to woke culture or management not being experienced enough, thus not realizing the importance and benefit. I was having trouble seeing the posted menue board and they had no printed menues. I asked the young lady "so whats good...what can you suggest? ..." She just smiled, clasped her hands together and shrugged her shoulders...[.Oh yes...a complete vote of confidence....right? ] The young man did however respond by saying " we have barbecue " I asked him "what else" ...he pointed to the posted menue. I said " I cant see it well enough" he said " thats ok, just take your time" and then walked off... Perhaps the sight of my disfigurement threw them off.
I only spent about $23... ordered Brisquet, Fries and what turned out to be a little cup of Baked Beans. Service was fast. Fortunately i was seated and positioned looking directly at the service area. When my name was called out it was done so by a young man who was facing towards the back of the preperation area and not out into the restaurant. I had sat as close as possible because my hearing isnt so good due to an IED blast from years ago.
All of the food had a weird after-taste. I dont know quite how to describe it. BUT I was really hungry, already there and had already spent a lot of money. I ate a few of the french fries then put some ketchup on them. I like Ketchup :) But this Ketchup was unlike any I had ever tasted.... i thought maybe i had gotten ahold of some strange Barbecue Sauce or something. It was just bad...spoiled, rotten and out of a container that was almost empty. There was another container. I tried it....basically the same thing but not quite as bad. I checked the containers on the other table. They were likewise. I went to the front and told the young girl. I didnt ask here to do anything....just told her what i discovered. and kindly lectured her on the strategic importance of good condiments, especially commonly used Ketchup and how it could possibly.make a Restaurant or surely break it.. she just nicely smiled, shrugged again and said I dont know what to tell you. I went back to my table, pulled out a Zip Lock bag, containerized all the food, left and then fed the creatures in the back parking lot. I hope I did...

We had a need for round two of BBQ from the previous night, so we were on a Mission. The restaurant is located in a shopping mall with many different types of shops. As you enter you can walk up and place your order or use the bathroom to your immediate right. As we entered the restaurant, an employee was very nice and welcoming. We ordered a brisket sandwich, brisket and green beans, half a bird and ribs. You place your order, take your seat and wait to be called. While we waited, at noon, the placed stopped and the Star Spangled Benner was played to honor our troops and flag. This former Marine loved this love of country. THAT made it 5 stars yet when the food arrived, it closed the deal. The brisket had the right blend of meat and fat to give it flavor. The ribs had and awesome rub that was enhanced by the Kentucky BBQ found on the table. The cornbread was good a bit hard but good. The bird was A+ the smoke and rub made it fall of the bone each bite. This was a great meal before Enter Sandman. When in town get your BBQ and patriotism on..TWO...

But it only took us about 15 minutes to go from back of the line to sitting down with our food, so they really have this place running like a well oiled machine.
The food is exactly what I expect from Mission - amazing. Our party got a variety of items from pulled pork to brisket to ribs and everything was simply awesome. It's so nice to have another BBQ option in the NRV and this is definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. Making good food consistently is not easy. Making it at scale for so many people and so quickly is much harder. This crew gets the job done.
If you stop by before noon, get ready to rise for the daily playing of the national anthem. Every person inside, customers and staff, will stop what they are doing, face the flag in the center of the ceiling, put their hand over their heart and sing along. It's a nice touch and much appreciated. If you aren't familiar with this company they do some really incredible work with military organizations and charities. So happy we have our very own Mission BBQ...
