Several years ago we stopped at Lucius Q during Bockfest. At that time the food was ordered cafeteria style and the meats were delicious! So after Bockfest this year (2023) I highly recommended this place to my bandmates so we went. Parking is easy and there is a lot of room and a band. What's not to like?
Turns out everything. We settled in and listened to the band, just not a big fan of the steel drums for German music. I went up to the 2nd floor bar to order beers and saw a disgruntled customer say they weren't going to pay for their food (as it was just coming out) and they left. So went back to my seat and we all ordered. I was super hungry. They were out of brisket. Ok I'll order the pork barbecue sandwich and mac and cheese. After waiting for 45-60 mins for food I went to check on it.
Was told the server who took our order walked off the job and there was one person left. Apparently they were out of pork barbecue also - nice for them to tell us. The manager came over and we were ready to walk. She offered us other things from the menu so I ordered a dozen chicken wings and my friend ordered ribs. After another wait the food came. The wings were quite done, not what I expected. The ribs were not quite expected either - turns out they were rib tips. The food was not good after all that wait. The sauces were brought out in little cups. Back when it was full service - you'd squeeze and slather the big bottle of sauce yourself.
The manager was kind and just crumpled up our receipts. We were told that the ownership is trying to get by with less to save on expenses. (The ownership is the same as when it opened.) I get that times are tough, but It is clearly not working. I'm afraid Lucius Q's days are numbered if they don't change it back. While I like full table service - spend the money on actually having the products on the menu, then you won't need servers and we can stand in line. Really a damn shame because I LOVED this place! Great location, parking, way to watch a band. I really didn't want to write this review but the ownership needs...
Read moreHas a lot of potential. Read a lot of positive reviews from Chowdown and word of mouth and was excited to try. Walking in was a sign that said order at the to-go sign. I stood, waiting in a line for over 15 minutes to order. After ordering the food he immediately took payment and of course the force tipping, I like to leave generous tips but believe it should be based on service received. I did leave a %20 tip hopeful for a good experience. I was then immediately told I could get my water at the bar. I stood at the bar for over 10 minute before the gentleman who originally took my order came around and brought me a water. The food took over 30 minutes come out. Probably the best BBQ flatbread and specialty tacos I could've had if they weren't cold to the touch. I'm not sure why the service was so terrible because the restaurant was not busy at all. The pork flatbread although slightly under luke warm was fantastic and the specialty tacos had great flavor but we're literally cold in the center. The queso corn was probably the best thing I ate and would have probably been much better served warm but the Mac and cheese wasn't edible. Not sure if it was because it was cold but wasn't much flavor and the consistency was chunky, I also noticed while walkimh out the tables around us also left there Mac and cheese untouched. Also had to refill my own water, for anyone going in the future bring your own cup and the water station is next to the bar. Also ordered a banana pudding which they forgot but I did get and it was fantastic. I did go back to the bar and ordered an amazing drink and the bartender seemed more responsive when she wasn't having to do the servers job. Overall I would recommend just get the food to go and prepare to reheat it when you get home because that was bar far the worse experience I've had eating at a restaurant before and left me feeling like I needed to asked to be tipped out for...
Read moreWe tried Lucius Q after seeing them on Dinners Drive Ins and Dives. I mainly went to get the brisket 3way. I was disappointed. The portion was small and had very little cheese after the episode showed a decent mound of cheese. Growing up eating Cincinnati 3ways I expected more. The worst part was the 3way was barely above room temperature. I wouldn't order it again. They might have plated it first and let it sit while they made our other food resulting in it not being served hot. The wings were ok. We ordered the dry rub expecting typical rub seasonings but instead the rub was brown sugar. It was an odd flavor for me that I didn't care for. We thought we ordered a brisket Philly cheese steak sandwich and we were surprised when they delivered a flat bread pizza. It was our mistake for not realizing it was on the flat bread section, but the name and description sure made us think we were getting a sandwich. The flatbread was delicious and so were the crispy coated fries. It's tough finding a free parking space. The public pay lot beside the building only does full day rates. We didn't like getting a soda in a can. We prefer fountain drinks that offer refills. Everything is ala cart, so it gets pricey. There are no meat plates or sandwich combos that include sides. Overall we didn't think it lived up to the triple D hype. Update: I went back and re-watched the DDD episode featuring Lucius Q. It just aggravated me more seeing the portion size of the 3 way, the amount of cheese and the steam coming off the dish. That include the one Guy Fieri had and the views on the fake customers eating it that was staged for the show. It makes no sense to have show that on TV and then serve the actual customer a room temperature, half portion dish, with only a small sprinkle of cheese. It just ruins someone's first impression so they...
