I sit to write this as my husband and I have come to notice how we are handled when we visit Silverglades and will not be returning. My husband found this place being the one who thrives off finding a gem to dine. He was very excited to introduce me with it not even being a 1/2 a mile from our home. When we forst visited we noticed it was a big hit with the corporate lunch crowd so the rush did not bother us. As we started to go during the later half of lunch we noticed an attitude from the guys at the salad bar which we assumed was because we were ordering at the later part of lunch when the salad bar was about to be put up for the day. So we brushed it off, but with our next few trips we noticed that the cashier was very rude and deliberately standoffish while taking his time to make sure that he charged us for every packet. Not an issue but we noticed the attention to detail with us and no one that was ahead of us at check out. Against my husband’s intuition I wanted to go today and that’s when it because blatant that we were not wanted in this space. Not just the looks but when I ordered a salad, I ordered 2 sides of salad dressing as I always do, but today I noticed a out loud debate and was approached by the same guy that gave attitude at the salad bar and was told that I need to pay for the extra salad dressing. WHICH IS MOT MH PROBLEM AT ALL. I paid for the salad dressing but to me it was humiliating, and a gesture mad as of I was trying to NOT pay for the dressing when I had NEVER been told of an up charge for an extra side of dressing. The guy at the salad bar causing a scene as if I was trying to get over was the confirmation that i needed to understand that my husband and I are not welcome in this establishment and will no longer be customers. There is a lot of tension in Cincinnati with the recent events that have taken place and passive prejudice is something I do not participate in, and I’m letting it be known because I’ve spent a pretty penny supporting a business who is discussed by my presence or...
Read moreI'm an east-coast transplant who struggled to find a good deli downtown, but Silverglades scratches that itch for me. My go-to order is the Little Italy with a side rotation of either their Greek feta pasta salad or chicken tortellini, but everything I have had there has been good. It is really refreshing to be to be able to get a high-quality Italian sandwich on good bread in Cincinnati, especially one that does NOT skimp on the meat! It's not a classic New England style sub/grinder but it tastes wonderful nonetheless. Most bread in Cincinnati sucks, but the bread they use for the Little Italy is legit.
Besides the sandwiches and sides, it's great to know that I can grab an assortment of crackers/drinks/snacks/desserts/etc walking distance from my apartment and office at work. If Silverglades left downtown I would honestly be very disappointed and feel that Cincy lost a bit of character, so I make a point of frequenting them weekly. The next time you are in the mood for a sandwich, support an independently owned business and try Silverglades - you won't be...
Read moreI was about to go to a different restaurant about a block away from Silverglades when a couple of businessmen I do not know advised me to walk another block and go here. I am very glad they did! I do not now a better deli in the Cincinnati area for a great sandwich, salad or soup for lunch at a table or takeout. I had a pastrami sandwich on pumpernickle bread with brown mustard and Swiss cheese melted on the top and chopped tomatoes. At the register, I was charged for a pastrami sandwich just about $7. The sandwich was exactly what I wanted. This is a great deli! The soup of the day looked great and the chili very appetizing. Specialty salads are available both vegetarian and not. This place was busy at the lunch hour, but a table was not hard to find. There is also a smoothie bar. Cincinnati has a great...
