Well... what can I say. I gave Guru 3/5 stars, which is average, because to me this place averages out in the middle with a good mix of both five star and one star qualities.
Five star qualities: the wait staff were extremely attentive, almost to the point of being bothersome, but not quite. The rice served with my entrees was spiced wonderfully and was not over or under cooked. My entree itself (I chose the chicken korma) was flavorful, with a large portion.
One star qualities: the price. Chicken curries are 17 dollars each, and beef / lamb entrees are 22 dollars each. This is an acceptable price for a five star restaurant, but not for an average restaurant. The naan. I imagine when it was fresh, it was delicious. However, by the time it got to me, about 7pm, it tasted microwaved. Then lastly, the wait staff. But hold on, didn't I say the wait staff was 5 stars? Well yes, i did, however I can't just ignore this part. We had six waiters and waitresses total at 7pm, and 4 tables. There was constant attention being poured on the guests, which was good, but there was a lot of overlap and it seemed very little communication between staff. We were asked the same question several times by several different wait staff.
My advice for Guru: slow down. Go back to the heart of Indian food. To me, my experience felt rushed and like my presence was more of a burden than a blessing. Make the naan fresh, put together a proper table map with each server having their own section to look after so overlap doesn't happen. And, at least until the overall quality of the restaurant catches up, lower your prices by a good 10 dollars for each entree and decrease your portions (I'm paying for a meal at your restaurant, not a meal to partially eat then take home).
To the owner specifically who stopped by the table once. You mentioned your dishwasher didn't show up, so you had to do the job. Thank you for stepping up and filling this role in your kitchen, it's one of the most important parts. Before a customer even tastes the food they see the silverware, and stare at the glasses and plates. If they're dirty, the whole restaurant is ruined in their eyes. However, please feel free to take a moment to talk. You asked how our spices were, and they were good, but there lacked a genuineness in your voice and demeanor. Each customer walking into your store has a story to tell, not to mention your own stories. Nothing makes people feel at home like sharing memories.
Good luck Guru, I'll probably try you again in a year, and I look forward to all the improvements I know...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Guru Indian Restaurant, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warmth and kindness by the owner and the entire staff.
The owner of Guru Indian Restaurant is an embodiment of hospitality and went above and beyond to ensure that we felt welcome and attended to. His genuine kindness and passion for creating a memorable dining experience truly shines through. It was evident that he takes great pride in his restaurant and cares deeply about the satisfaction of his customers.
Speaking of the staff, they were incredibly attentive throughout my visit. They were always readily available to answer any questions, offer recommendations, and provide excellent service. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor added to the overall positive atmosphere of the restaurant.
Now, let's talk about the food - it was absolutely amazing! The chefs at Guru Indian Restaurant have truly mastered the art of flavor. Every dish I tried was a burst of authentic Indian spices that were perfectly balanced. Each bite was a delightful explosion of taste and aroma, leaving me craving more.
One dish that particularly stood out to me was the garlic naan. It was simply divine! The naan bread was freshly made, soft, and fluffy, with just the right amount of garlic and butter. It perfectly complemented the various curries and lent an extra layer of richness to the overall meal. I could have easily devoured an entire basket of it!
Beyond the outstanding food and service, the ambiance of Guru Indian Restaurant was warm and inviting. The décor created a cozy and intimate setting that enhanced the overall dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a memorable meal, this restaurant ticks all the boxes.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Guru Indian Restaurant highly enough. From the kind-hearted owner to the attentive staff and incredible food, everything about this place is top-notch. If you're a fan of authentic Indian cuisine and crave a dining experience that will leave you smiling from ear to ear, Guru Indian Restaurant is the...
Read moreNot authentic, neither fresh ingredients which is a characteristic of Indian food. They use ingredients in their dishes that don't belong to neither the dish nor to the indian cuisine. Tasteless and very bold. Even before I tried my dish, the presentation seemed like the ingredients were from canned or frozen vegetables. Once I tried my food, I just confirmed what I suspected. I dislike to return the food to the kitchen, in about 15 years it only happened twice. Unfortunately, this was the second time I returned the Jalfrezi dish I ordered. The owner was at the restaurant and he was aware of me returning my food. However, he never came to the table to either ask the reason why I returned the food or to educate his customers in the food preparation or to explain why the difference on the ingredients. When I even apologized to the lady serving the food for returning the food and explaining why I did so, she was bothered and in a rush by saying: "just tell me what you want". It took few moments to get the servers attention when I returned my food because at many times, the dining room was left alone even when the place was not busy at all. I don't write reviews but I feel this place deserves one. I eat Indian food at least once a week. I tried many restaurants in many places, including Hindu temples and indian friend's homes. I've never dislike indian food, except this place. If you are new to Indian food or of you want the real IndiaI cuisine, I suggest many other places in town and you'd definitely taste and feel the...
