Normally, I have a good experience at Barrio. However, my last experience was not pleasant. I reached out to the company via the email on their website and the "General Contact and Feedback" section on the website over a week ago. I expressed my desire to hear from the company. I still have not heard from them. Below, I am pasting part of the email I sent them, which details my experience at the restaurant. They have lost my business unless I hear back from them. As an actor who's worked in Cleveland quite a bit within the last year and has frequented the restaurant, I will not continue to patronize a business that does not take the time to respond or acknowledge an unpleasant experience. Here are details of my experience:
My name is Benjamin Moore, and I ate at your downtown location this evening, Saturday, September 24. Unfortunately, I did not have a pleasant experience. I ordered three tacos, a side of rice, a side of black beans, and a ginger ale. When my food was delivered to the table, I received only the tacos - no rice or black beans. But at that time I did not remember that I'd ordered a side of rice and beans as I was on my phone and multi-tasking. So I ate the three tacos. After finishing the tacos, I flagged down my server and asked her for the check. (She had not checked on me in a while.) She did not give me a hard copy of the check; she came over with the machine for me to pay and quoted my bill at $19.17. I was wondering why my bill was so high for just three tacos (because I still wasn't remembering I'd ordered the sides of rice and black beans). So I asked for a copy of my receipt. When she gave me the receipt, I saw the rice and black beans on there, so I called out to the server as she was walking away from clearing the basket that had the tacos and the basket that had the chips and salsa, but she did not hear me and kept walking into the kitchen. A few minutes later after I was able to flag her down again, I told her that I did not receive the rice or black beans and that I would have brought it to her attention earlier, but I'd forgotten that I'd ordered them. She then said, "Well, there's no way to prove that you didn't receive them. Next time try to say something earlier." I was totally taken aback. Clearly, I was not lying or trying to get over; I'd given her an 18% tip, despite the fact that she had not checked on me at all once my food was delivered. She said she could have the manager come speak with me, so I asked her to send the manager over. The manager never came to the table. I saw her speaking with the manager, after which the manager went to the register. About a minute or two later, the server came back to my table and asked if the manager came over. I told her the manager had not come over. The server then said the manager could process a refund for the rice and beans. I told her I'd rather have the rice and beans and take it to-go. But she let me know that the manager had already processed the refund for the rice and beans, then she gave me the new receipt. I received no apology for not bringing all of the food. Nor did anyone ask which I'd prefer - the food or a refund. It was all...
Read moreAs a vegetarian and health-conscious diner, I have found Barrio to be a delightful dining destination that caters to my culinary preferences while never compromising on flavor. From their scrumptious vegetarian options to an impressive array of low-calorie drinks, Barrio truly delivers a mouthwatering dining experience for those seeking both taste and health-conscious options.
Upon entering Barrio, the vibrant atmosphere and warm, inviting décor immediately set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The attentive and knowledgeable staff further enhanced the ambiance, guiding me through their extensive vegetarian menu options and low-calorie drink selections.
One of the standout vegetarian dishes at Barrio is their Vegetarian Tostadas. These crispy corn tortillas are piled high with refried black beans, a hearty blend of roasted vegetables, and topped with a generous sprinkle of crumbly queso fresco. A drizzle of zesty chipotle sauce ties the dish together, ensuring each bite is packed with robust flavor.
Another must-try for vegetarians is the Barrio Enchiladas Verdes. The dish features tender corn tortillas filled with a mouthwatering medley of spinach, mushrooms, and caramelized onions, smothered in a tangy tomatillo sauce. The enchiladas are then finished off with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of Cotija cheese, ensuring a perfect balance of creaminess and acidity.
Barrio's low-calorie drink options are equally impressive, providing guilt-free refreshment to complement their delectable vegetarian dishes. The Skinny Margarita, for example, is a lighter take on the classic cocktail, made with freshly squeezed lime juice, a touch of agave nectar, and premium silver tequila. This well-crafted libation provides the perfect balance of tart and sweet, without the heavy calorie load.
For a non-alcoholic alternative, the Hibiscus Cooler is a refreshing choice. This low-calorie mocktail features a blend of tart hibiscus tea, sweetened with a hint of agave nectar and brightened with a splash of fresh lime juice. The result is a revitalizing beverage that pairs beautifully with the bold flavors of Barrio's vegetarian offerings.
In conclusion, Barrio has mastered the art of combining robust flavors, vegetarian variety, and health-conscious options in a welcoming and lively atmosphere. Whether you are a dedicated vegetarian or simply seeking a lighter dining experience, Barrio's extensive menu and low-calorie drinks will undoubtedly leave you satisfied and coming...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I LOVE Barrio but this review is specifically for the downtown location and their staff. Yesterday I was in town and called Barrio downtown at 9:50pm to place a pick up order. I was told it would be 10-15 minutes.
I showed up with two friends about 10 minutes later and since there was no one at the host stand, we decided to go to the bar to let the bartender know we were there for a pick up order and that we were going to grab a beer while waiting. So around 10:05pm we told the bartender and she said she will let the host know (again, no one was at the host stand). The restaurant was slow, ton of tables open and there was staff all over the place. At 10:30, so 40 minutes since I called in our order, I said something to the bartender again because people at the bar ordered and got their food in about 10 minutes. She said I don’t really have much to do with to go orders, that goes through the host but I’ll let them know (still no one at the host stand). At 10:45 I said something again and said to the bartender “I was told at 9:50 that it would be 10-15 minutes.” She then again said she doesn’t have much to do with it and said sorry.
Then out of no where the “host” appeared (a lady with blue hair), said “are you “insert name?” I said yes? She said “your order has been been at the host stand for 20 minutes. Usually when your order at the host stand, you pick up at the host stand” - as she aggressively kept pointing at the host stand. I said I called in the order and when I got here no one was at the host stand. And she said “yeah.. you go to the hast stand” while pointing again. Basically it was my fault for not going behind the host stand while no one was there and start looking for my food. The bartender obviously never communicated to the host that I was waiting for the food while at the bar like she said she did. The host was genuinely just rude and didn’t apologize for my food sitting for 20 min, and with tacos of course they were all soggy and cold at that point. Just a horrible way to act towards customers and the host and bartender on 3/23/24 at around 10pm ish should be embarrassed for horrible communication and essentially blaming customers. If you are still reading this, go to Barrio, it’s delicious…but stay away from this location. And if you order for pick up, just go behind the host stand on your own and start looking for your food apparently when no one is even there...
