I stopped in this evening to split a sugar cookie with my husband. What a disappointment! I was given a refrigerated cookie and when I inquired about receiving one that was warmed, it was thrown in a microwave for less than 10 seconds. Matters only worsened at that point. When my cookie was returned to me, it was partially warm, melted with butter seeping everywhere, and the other portion of the cookie was frigidly cold—what a nightmare! When I asked for a refund, the assistant blamed me, stating I asked for the cookie in this manner, then attempted to argue with me. When I requested another cookie, she became belligerent and angry, then raised her voice when I asked for her name. I ultimately decided to walk out and make a $4 donation to another sad, poorly trained, forward-facing service-person. I specifically decided to leave when I saw her deliberately fondling/drop my new cookie on the floor, from behind the refrigerator, instead of simply handing it to me. (She made a customer wait while she attempted to hide the fact that she was issuing her own version of “justice”, by sabotaging my cookie before handing it to me)—naturally, I walked out. Such a shame that a simple transaction turned into a poor review and ultimately a poor reflection on the business. I would start by recommending better training but obviously there are several...
Read moreTerrible tasting and a dog was IN THE BAKERY!!
First off I have to say I am a cupcake lover. So I've had my fair amount of them and have been to many different places to try them. Which is why I went to Colossal. But... I'm warning you - Don't waste your money! I bought 4 of them for me and my family. I got in my car and took a bite out of mine, the Vanilla. It was so dry and tasted like I ate straight almond extract. Seriously- almond extract! It was awful! That's when I thought, I should try a bite out of another one, in hopes it just happened to be the Vanilla one they gave me (though they said the were made fresh that morning). So I tried the yellow with fudge- unfortunately, again it was dry and terrible in taste. I was upset I spent my money on these. I was about to toss them and I thought, no let me taste the other two. So I just took a bite out of the other two and the results were the same. Dry, and awful. I guess I should've known better because the owner was there talking to a friend of hers ( you could tell by the conversation) that had her dog with her!! Yes - In the Bakery! This was not a seeing eye dog either. Never ever again will I go there! The ladies behind the counter were nice but I will not spend that much money on nasty tasting cupcakes again! You have...
Read moreUpdate 8/1/25: updating this review because there was another person behind the counter this evening who gently reminded me to update if things had changed — The owners certainly seem to have taken prior reviews to heart, and the shop is usually stocked, with certainly more pleasant folks behind the counter! Super glad that Colossal is doing what it can to cheer on Downtown Cleveland!
Original: Been coming to this shop for the last several years, and used to visit this place for their Blondies at least once a week, up until a few months ago. The service and the people manning the counters, have progressively gone so far downhill that even expecting a full sentence on whether or not something was available, is too much of an ask. This evening’s visit to the shop was no different — it was not a game day, and I was literally the only customer there - yet, the person at the counter couldn’t even find the time (?) to answer whether they had Blondies and when it would be available.
At least their North Olmsted location is still friendly — I’d much rather drive to their North Olmsted location now, than walk a few steps to this forgotten shop...
