A Disappointing Experience at Mortonās
As a loyal customer who has never had an issue with Mortonās in the past, I was disheartened by my most recent visits. I feel itās necessary to share this experience, despite how much I typically avoid leaving negative reviews.
To start, we noticed an inconsistency in food preparation practicesāspecifically, some of the kitchen staff were selectively wearing gloves. This was concerning. Additionally, after being seated, we waited about 20 minutes before we had to request bread, which should have been provided automatically. Our server had an assistant, yet even simple requests seemed to be an inconvenience. When we inquired about the bread, the serverās passive-aggressive response, āYes, if you can wait a second,ā was disheartening and set a tone of indifference for the rest of the evening.
Throughout our visit, the feeling of being an inconvenience to the server persisted. Each time we asked for clarification or accommodations regarding the menu, her lack of knowledge and enthusiasm became evident. In stark contrast, we observed another server nearby who was engaging, knowledgeable, and enthusiasticāqualities that enhance the customer experience but were noticeably absent at our table.
The situation became even more frustrating when there was a mix-up with a gift card I was using to pay. (In my previous visit,) I had read the card numbers off my phone, and the waiter then had successfully processed it; after writing down the numbers, our server returned to our table and loudly announced, āYour card declined,ā which caused heads to turn. It was embarrassing, especially since it turned out that the numbers were written down incorrectly. Speeding up to my current visit:
When I went to pay this time , I had thought it would be a great idea to write down my gift card numbers ahead of time to alleviate any confusion , once I told her Iād be paying with the gift card, I was using my balance from last time ;you could see the look of this disdain on her face . She then proceeded to tell me I need to see proof that you purchased it ! Usually, , if you have a gift card ,youāre not the one who purchased it but ok . I then did what was asked and pulled it up on my phone . After giving her the gift card number she processes it , and then comes back in a very dismissive manner that I owed an additional $0.88. Cent . The passive-aggressive tone that had permeated the service reached its peak at that point. It felt as though the server assumed she wouldnāt be receiving a tip, and it showed in her demeanor.
I attempted to use my Landryās card for the $25 discount but realized too late that I hadnāt registered it. By then, it was clear the server was done trying to provide any level of service. After spending over $200 on what was, at best, mediocre food, I was left feeling deeply disappointed and even hurt by the treatment we received. We gave The balance of 88cent on the credit card to include the tip , we were never asked for our ID to try to confirm identity or that it was ours like she did the gift card. The gift card never confirmed our identity so I didnāt understand the point of asking me to pull it up on my phone .
The culmination of poor service, passive-aggressive behavior, and even the subtle undertones of racial bias made for an unpleasant and unfortunate dining experience. Despite my loyalty to Mortonās, this experience has left me with no desire to return, even if a client were to invite me.
Our server, Kate, was responsible for this experience, and while I understand that everyone can have an off day, this was far beyond unacceptable for a restaurant of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOkay so Mortons is still a very classy restaurant based on appearance only. My husband and I stopped in to try the Mortons located in downtown Cleveland because we had Mortons in Puerto Rico and it was amazing. Wish I could say the same here š so 1st mistake was we sat in the bar area (just wanted a chill dinner and drinks) probably should've sat in the main dining area the servers look more pleasant over there. Our server was Morgan another lady named Arielle was there as well. There was 10 people Only in our area and that's including my husband and I. Morgan started off strong came and took our order even offered a suggestion, we received our appetizer which were the grilled Oysters and they were absolutely delicious. I wanted to place a second order of them but was unable to get Morgans attention. I was literally calling her name waving my arms try to get her attention (Mind you our table was directly across from the bar). She stayed in one corner of the bar Only paying attention to a couple older gentlemen that I'm assuming might be her regulars. Finally she remembered she had us sitting there waiting once our entree was brought out to us by someone else and she came over to the table and asked if we needed anything else and I stated "Geesh we've been literally trying to flag you down forever" she says sarcastically "Ohhhh okay I'm sorry" and you could tell she was instantly bothered (As if I had the nerve to point out she's not doing her job) But that was literally how our service went for the entire duration. We basically watched her service the older gentlemen while we flag her down for things we needed. I did place another order for the Oysters and requested they grilled them just a little longer. I wish I would've taken a picture of the second order they looked absolutely ridiculous Nothing like the 1st ones no butter or anything they basically grilled them until they were just dried out. Not only that, I'm use to dining in fine restaurants and before you receive your main entrĆ©e, they come clean the table off scrape any crumbs off your table then your food comes to a nice clean table. (Maybe they do this in the main dining area only š¤·āāļø IDK) But That didn't happen and you know their bread makes a huge mess very flaky crust. Now on the food my husband ordered the Mortons burger š and we've had a better burger in a fast food chain. It was just a tasteless ball of dry meat over cooked on a dry bun. I ordered twin lobster tails and they were the smallest tails I've ever seen š. The au gratin potatoes were under cooked and also needed to be seasoned. If I'm spending over $200 in any place I expect excellent service with some quality tasting food and sorry to say I received neither. The stars in my review represent š āØļø my 1st order of Oysters ONLY anything after...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI made reservations cor a table for two to celebrate my wedding anniversary dinner. When my wife and I arrived they were overbooked and told us the only table they could give us was by the bar. No big deal. Even though we had a reservation for weeks. My wife ordered the surf and turf and I ordered a filet mignon steak. Both of our steaks were severely undercooked and raw in the middle. Not a little undercooked but severely raw. When the general manager came over to ask how our meals were, we told him the food was undercooked. He took my steak in the kitchen and told them to put it back on the grill. When it came back out, it was still raw. Raw. Not undercooked. Raw in the middle. The general manager came back over to ask us how our meals were. I told him, āsir Iām not trying to be a bother, but my food is still raw.ā He rolled his eyes and stormed away. I wouldnāt eat here again if someone paid me too. Honestly I donāt even care about how BAD the service was. If the food was good, I would deal with it. But it was horrible. The balding GM with glasses that flirts with all the servers at the pass and Nateās of quality checking the food coming out should be ashamed of himself. Despicable to treat customers like that. Especially after I was very polite about the massive mistakeS made. Iāve worked in kitchens for 15+ years and have never seen a kitchen serve raw meat twice. Itās unconscionable to me. Mortonās Cleveland location is trash. I would go to Acqua Di Luca or Hyde Park out in Westlake. Texas Roadhouse at ridge park square makes a WAY better steak tbh. Mortonās was overpriced and the staff was negligent at best. From the GM to the hostess....
