I can’t really comment on the food because we never received it. We placed a delivery order through their website which uses Chow Now for their deliveries. My wife had just delivered a baby and was looking forward to a sushi order as her first meal post partum while at the hospital since she had not had sushi in almost a year. The order ended up being delayed by over 2.5 hours. No one from the restaurant or delivery service called us. We actually had to call the restaurant ourselves after seeing that our order kept being delayed and delayed via the Chow Now tracking app. We did not feel safe consuming sushi, chicken, and a custard based dessert that had been sitting out for 2.5 hours. I understand mistakes, but the worst part was that the manager refused to take any responsibility and simply blamed the delivery service for cancelling the pick-up. Where’s the oversight if you are linking your online deliveries to Chow Now via the website. Additionally, she said that she spoke to the chef who said it would be safe to consume. I work in health care and I fail to understand how any restaurant would suggest that food that had been sitting out that long would be safe, especially sushi and especially for someone who is only a few hours post partum. We had to argue back and forth in order to get a refund. I wish they had been more accommodating to our concerns about food safety. The experience was mostly disappointing and extremely frustrating to deal with. Poor customer service all around. I would not recommend to anyone and will not plan to dine here...
Read moreFirst time visitor but will probably become a regular based on my experience at this delicious restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive. There's a help wanted sign on the door so they're still looking for more qualified help. The sushi is very fresh and of very high quality with great flavor. This place knows that the little things matter and make a big difference in Japanese food. The miso soup is complex with a rich bonito-flavored stock and not overly salty. The house salad has a great variety of fresh greens (no iceberg lettuce) and the dressing is subtle but not overpowering and comes with dried bonito shavings. The sushi comes out at nearly room temperature, not cold. The rice is cooked perfectly and has a good balance from the rice vinegar that's added to sushi rice. Their menu specializes in sushi and has a good variety of appetizers and kushiyaki, grilled skewers. The bacon wrapped asparagus was amazing. The shrimp tempura roll that came with my mother's sushi combo order had delicious thin slices that were complex and made with shiso (or beefsteak plant) leaves that added a fresh spiciness to it. Misaki is much higher quality and more authentically Japanese than the other Japanese restaurants in the area. It's on par with some of the best in Denver, including the venerable Sushi Den. With higher quality comes higher prices and there might be some sticker shock for some. But you get what you pay for. It's definitely worth it here. You won't regret the occasional splurge for a...
Read moreOur friends gave us glowing reviews about Misaki so we tried them out. We only had the chicken teriyaki bento and tempura since we don't eat sushi anymore and the weather was too hot for ramen. Both the bento and tempura were very disappointing. The chicken teriyaki was leg meat on skewers, and they give you two of them. Each piece of chicken was just a tad larger than my index finger, and they were flattened or strategically sliced thin to give them a bigger appearance. Along with the chicken there was a heavy scoop of rice and a ricey California roll so basically the bento was around 80 percent white rice and not much else. You basically pay around $14 for mostly bland and dry overcooked rice which needed a lot of water to wash down, and you get a 3-bite salad that looked like an afterthought. Onto the tempura, every piece had way too much batter so it was not the fluffy and airy fried batter we enjoy at other Japanese restaurants. The thickness of the batter just made for a mushy mess whether it was the shrimp or vegetable pieces. Service was nothing special and nothing to complain about. Last but not least, their markup on sake and wines were so excessive for a restaurant that we could not get ourselves to order drinks. You have to know a bit about sakes and wine brands to notice the ridiculous pricing. I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending Misaki to...
