Half of a star needs to be an option as this was horrific experience. Briefly, my family went to Chuys on this past Sunday afternoon, in celebration of my middle daughter's 22nd bday. Our seating was next to the bathroom, but ironically it was the optimum place to be seated - more on that later. We had a very unenthusiastic waiter, who never cracked a smile, nor did he provide any information about the menu items. He was impatient with our ordering, though I initially tried to explain how the tab should be broken down - so this person, this person etc.- he waved me off. He filled our drink order but we had to ask for straws. And provide reminders to what the missing drinks were. I know that waiters have a lot to do, but I believe in working smarter, not harder. At any rate, our food arrived, plates were steaming hot, but sadly the food was not - it seemed as if it may have been sitting for a while, because not even the sauce was "wet", indeed, it was stuck to the plate with everything else. As a matter of fact, I could not cut my tortilla with a knife or a fork. I had to bite it hard to get a piece of it. My mistake, it was flavorless and tough to chew - kind of like stale chewing gum. My rice was extremely dry and tasteless, I used some of the salsa from the chips in an effort to perk them up. Our waiter never voluntarily filled glasses or anything else for that matter. This is especially noteworthy, as the food had a bit of spice to it and required an infusion of water to save off the "burn". Now, to the restrooms -While I simply just stopped trying to eat the food - partly out of frustration but also because it simply was not good; some of the other guests - college students(every penny spent counts, no wasting)- tried to consume the food but became physically ill. They had to run into the restroom to vomit not only what they had tried to eat at the restaurant but also anything they had before coming. (Remember, I told you those close restrooms would come in handy later. Now, I am writing this a few days out because I wanted to have my flared-temper resolve itself before writing the review. Before dining this Sunday, I had never heard of Chuys, but I can say that it was my first and last visit. My daughter is a disabled introvert, who chose Chuys because she had eaten at a Chuys in Zenia, where she attends college, was near tears, because of the experience. I don't want a thing from Chuys. This review is to remind you that you only have one chance to make a first impression. Sadly, it was an epic fail...
Read moreChuy’s food is fantastic! Authentic Tex-mex and Fresh! My favorite part about Chuy’s is the happy hour! My friends and I frequent happy hour there for the delicious Margaritas and the nacho car. Today, my boyfriend and I stopped in to have a drink after work, it was super busy- no spots left at the tiny bar and one table top open. A server told us we could sit at the table even though we were stopping in just for drinks. Cool. I went to get chips and salsa, my bf ordered drinks from a different sever and explained we were just having drinks- no menus needed. About 20 minutes later, the same server comes back and asks us if we needed menus tonight- I look confused as my bf already told her we were just drinking. She began to explain that the free nacho cart is only for the guests sitting in the bar who are actually purchasing meals. I disagreed with her, even pulled out the good ole menu and pointed out the advertisement. She said that the menu was in fact in correct- I disagreed. I have been coming to this establishment for almost three years, I know the drill. She explained that it just started yesterday and if a manager sees us, we will get in trouble and be asked to leave. She then instructed us to lie to the manager and say we were waiting for food. I questioned her about the happy hour rules, showed her the menu-Again and she began to explain again that they just decided last night to change the rules. There was no notifications posted anywhere- not on the menus or the tables- no where. I then invited her to have the manager come to speak to me and she laughed it off and walked away. For the next 20 minutes, she proceeded to stand behind me talking loudly and rudely about how she wished she had a table to sit these poor people who are waiting to eat dinner, counted down the minutes to the end of happy hour. Our vibe was killed- we couldn’t even enjoy our drinks or each other’s company. I realize she wanted to get a bigger party at the 4 top we were sitting at to make more money. However, we are paying customers- we walked in at 6:37 and were gone by 7:12. We would have stayed longer and drank more and even ordered food, bc the nachos were very enticing as usual. but we were obviously not welcome in her section unless we were spending more money. What a waste of...
Read moreFirst, would like to say that this was a recommendation from my Dad as he works in the area. Second, I would like to say that my boyfriend is ½ Mexican & ½ Irish so he can take some heat (he eats habaneros very easily). Third, I would like to say that not only was this our 1st time here, but we told our waiter as well. He did well with greeting us & getting our drink order & bringing out the chips, and salsa (my boyfriend loves salsa, but he said that this one tasted watered-down & like they took tomatoes & blended it with some already made salsa) & a white dipping sauce that I later found out was jalapeño ranch dipping sauce. He (the waiter) did well in explaining a few things & telling us what was popular & what he liked & recommended. After we ordered, then things went downhill from there. As far as food is concerned the queso is really good. We had to ask for more chips though. The burrito my boyfriend got was really good as well (much better than what I got, in my opinion). I got what the waiter told me was popular the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas. This is VERY spicy!! I have a very mild palette & my boyfriend doesn't & even he said it had a big "kick" to it. So I just ate the chicken out of them which was very tasty. It was a bit dry but that's ok. The rice & beans that came with my dish were good as well.
I asked my boyfriend (who's from Michigan & came to visit with me over the 4th of July holiday of 2023) if he would ever want to come back & almost instantly without much hesitation, he said no. I have to agree. I think that COVID ruined a lot (some might say everything) in the customer service / fast food/ food industry & no one wants to work it anymore, but we all want to be able to eat out at several different types of places?!! I hope that this only helps others that follow in tow. I'm not doing this to be negative in any way. Just attempting to help &...
