Let's be honest. You can't beat a honey baked ham for Easter. I picked my whole ham up on a Thursday afternoon. The place was packed. I had to circle the parking lot twice to find a parking place.
Once inside the store, I could see that there were two lines. I assumed one line was for individuals who had pre-ordered and pre-paid for their hams and one line for individuals who hadn't pre-ordered. The problem was there was only one sign and that sign was confusing. I waited (along with three other women) in the wrong line for twenty minutes, then once I realized I was in the wrong line I had to go to the end of the correct line. In all, I spent forty minutes at the store. Was it worth it? Yes, if my husband were the one picking up the ham.
The ham was fabulous. Moist and delicious.
I also ordered a pecan pie. I'm not a pie eater, but my guests really enjoyed the pecan pie.
While I was in line, a gentleman suggested I do as he did last year and pick up the ham the Wednesday before Easter. Probably a brilliant idea, but the instructions say the ham should be eated in four days. Not a lot of time for leftovers.
When I finally reached the checkout, the process was seamless and the cashier...
Read moreThis was our first experience picking up a ham at the store. Previously, we purchased one at a kiosk at Kroger. However that kiosk is no longer available. So, we reserved a Honey Baked ham online - didn't purchase, just reserved. When we arrived at the store, there was a line outside the door that was wrapped around the front and side of the building. This was somewhat surprising. Upon entering the store, there was an amusement park wrap around line. Nonetheless, the line continually moved and everyone waiting was patient. There were four or five cash registers. Upon approaching the next available register, we gave our name, and when it was found on the list, we were asked if we wanted the lower or higher serving range. A ham was retrieved; we looked at it, approved it, paid for it and left. This process took 50 minutes. God's glorious sunshine made the wait outside enjoyable, so it was a pleasant experience despite...
Read moreI know attempting to patronize honey baked ham during the holidays is a lesson in futility however it was magnified this year. There are two lines, one for those who ordered online and the other for walk-in customers. Unfortunately the metering person they have stationed there, was not super attentive and consistently needed to be told that there was an open cash register. Additionally, if any one person were in the prepay line they were always given the next up cashier. It didn't matter if they were just walking in the door, he would hold up the rest of the line and wait for them to approach the front of the walk-in line so the cashier was waiting when there was a line of 30 people in the non pay online line. Each time that pause happened it was long enough for the cashier to check out one person so the online customer wouldn't have had to wait anyway but the...
