Soul kitchen — Restaurant in Concord

I have been wanting to try this place since I noticed they were in the mall. I'm really not a fan that some of the meats are only available on certain days. It's caused me not to go several times. This particular day they had something I would want. I got the ribs, mac & cheese, collard greens, yams, and cornbread. Overall, it was just meh. I wouldn't be running to go back, if I even go back. I did feel it's a little pricey for what you get. I don't really want to spend $20 on one meal in the mall but that's just me (and that's doesn't include a drink). Service was slow, no one seemed to be moving fast at all as if they're on their own time.

Ribs - 8/10 - They were very tender and just fell off the bone. They can use a little more seasoning but the BBQ sauce helped them to have flavor.

Collard Greens - 5/10 - The collard greens really lack flavor and have a strong taste of vinegar in them. They just weren't very good. They need to be cooked in meat for flavor.

Mac & cheese - 3/10 - This was my least favorite item. I thought they were awful. I let my daughter taste it she she felt the same. I don't know if it's the type of cheese used or a seasoning used but the taste was way off and downright nasty. They should have been on it with this... you have to get that right especially if you charge extra for it (on the menu).

Yams - 9/10 - This was my absolute favorite. They definitely did their thing with seasoning the yams. They were so sweet and delicious. Seasoned too perfection. My only complaints were $3.65 for an additional side is a bit ridiculous and they are canned yams that they seasoned (still very good though).

Cornbread - 9/10 - Very good cornbread and paired well with the meal. No complaints. It was as it should be in my opinion but I like the sweeter cornbread. I wouldn't say it's traditional cornbread but that it's...

This is my first visit to this restaurant and we (myself and 7 other people who ordered) were not impressed. We had a variety and food and we all “tried” each other’s food since we’re always looking for a new restaurant to visit as a group (of 25-30 people). In all, we spent close to $160. The reviews below are based on all of us trying the majority of these items.

1.) The chicken wings were good, but just okay. 2.) The banana pudding should be called banana custard instead. 0/10 I do not recommend. 3.) The Mac & cheese was decent after we asked for it to be fresh. 4.) Fried okra was great. 5.) The meatloaf tasted like it was mixed with dog food. 6.) Candied yams were good. 7.) Cabbage was not good - no flavor. Same with black eyed peas and pinto beans. 8.) Collard greens tastes like rinsed off Glory greens. 9.) Cornbread was great. 10.) Mashed potatoes were bland. 11.) Hamburger steak was really good. Would recommend. 12.) BBQ Chicken was good. The sweet tea was very sweet…which is expected, but it tasted more like sugar water with a little tea added.

The service was mediocre. I don’t believe the owners were ready for a second location and/or should consider providing a more simple menu. This place has potential…maybe consider hiring a consultant to better maximize the customer experience and...

I went to the mall on 2/10. I was unaware of this new establishment. I went over to look at their food and the two young ladies behind the counter offered no customer service what so ever. Didn’t even speak. But at the time I was just looking. I returned this Monday because I love soul food and still wanted to give them a try, but again no good customer service from the three employees including the same two females from 2/10 and the male that took my order. As I was waiting for my order to be fix, the male started to clean the outside counter; as he was cleaning he threw trash from the counter over to the side where the food was. I watched the trash land in the beans. I told one of the young ladies about it and she proceeded to scooped it out WITH THE SERVING SPOON and that’s it!! I will NOT be returning here and I tossed my food out. If they do that where the customer can see them; there’s no telling what the do behind closed doors 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 $20 plus...
