Their baked goods are great except for their cakes (I noticed other reviews said something similar so what is going on here?). I ordered cakes from them for two occasions (a birthday and an anniversary) last October so I can say this confidently - the cakes here are not good. The frosting tastes like hardened Crisco or like you're eating nothing but a stick of butter. I'm not sure what they're using but it is, quite frankly, weird. The oatmeal cream pies and whoopie pies, however, are outstanding. I just wouldn't recommend dropping $30+ on a cake from this bakery. If we had tried the first cake for our anniversary (10/22) before ordering one in advance for my brother's birthday (10/28), we NEVER would have ordered a second one. Our experience was disappointing and we threw the second cake in the trash after one slice. I'm glad I remembered to review this place because our experience last fall was a ginormous waste of money. I'm still frustrated that I paid for cakes this disappointing. I could have purchased cakes from Walmart and they would have been better than the ones at Crust and Crumb.
Edit: In responding to the owner below, I think the solution is simple here. You have multiple reviews from customers over the past year expressing disappointment in your cakes, from the frosting to the dryness of the cake. The best remedy you could provide for future customers is to change the way you make them or to stop making them altogether. Your pastries are excellent but the cakes are inedible. Time to either make some improvements or trim the fat from the business. Not sure why you won't listen to your customers. Maybe it's easier to hustle money for expensive cakes out of people first in hopes that they don't mention anything than it is to do some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting Concord and was taking a walk down Main Street, we stopped into the crust and crumb baking company to get a few items to eat in the bakery and take several more back to the hotel to have because the next day we're expecting a foot of snow. We sat down to eat our items including buying a $3.75 dog treat for the dog. The girl who served us even made a comment of how cute the dog was! When we were about halfway finished eating our food someone came over and told us that a dog could not be in the bakery. I said we've been in here for about 30 minutes and no one said anything...she said she didn't notice us. And was not very nice about telling us we had to leave right now. We had to pack up our half eaten things and exit the store right then. It was a very terrible experience . The sign in their stores says kindness, hope and understanding. I don't think so! We even left at left the tip and paid it forward by purchaseing a quiche and a large coffee for someone in need... will NOT be recommending or returning!
UPDATE: Appreciate your response, however, we were in your bakery for 15 minutes selecting the $50 in baked goods that we purchased, per our parking receipt, prior to the 12 minutes that we were seated. Our puppy was eating the treat that we had just purchased in your bakery, and your senior employee did not nicely let us know, as out of town guests, the policy and offer to pack our items to go, she told us we had to leave immediately. I had to ask for a to go bag. I did not berate your employee, I defended my three small children, who were embarrassed for breaking the law, and my 8 pound puppy, who was kept in a canvas carrying bag the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a fantastic bakery!!! Anytime you go in you can count on seeing a case full of beautiful cakes, another case that has various whoopie pies, (my personal favorite is a double raspberry whoopie), personal breakfast quiche, lots of cookies and an array of other goodies... its glorious! :))
There is street side parking available out front. It is not free. There is handicap āæ accessible parking but it is on the opposite side of the street. So there is a bit of a walk/roll involved to get to this Bakery from these parking spots but like 1/4 of a block.
This is a space that I have always felt safe and welcomed as a visible member of the LGBTQ community.
There are comfortable chairs and icecream-tables available for customers to enjoy their treats at.
They have a beautiful chai lattes, espresso lattes, capacinnos and coffees to drink. As well they have a standing refrigerator that holds bottled water and an array of other cold beverages.
The quality of the pastries and other baked goodies is...
