Excellent Breakfast.
Recently we read that First Watch was opening a new location in Conroe, TX. They have a location in the Woodlands, but while I have lived here about 3 years, I never visited that spot.
My wife signed up for email updates, and a couple of weeks ago, we got an invitation to enjoy a pre-opening breakfast, the day before their official opening. We decided to give it a try. (In full disclosure, all of the food that day was complimentary, but we gave a generous tip, and a donation to the Montgomery County Food bank in lieu of the charge for the food.)
The menu is varied and impressive. Cage Free Eggs, responsibly sourced coffee, etc.
I decided to try the breakfast tacos. You get 3 of them with Chicken, Chorizo and Cheese. I am a picky eater, and asked for no avocado, or Pico de gallo. The order arrived exactly as ordered. The taste was excellent, the eggs were very fresh tasting, and I was pleased that the chorizo was not too salty or overpowering. These were some of the best breakfast tacos I have had.
My wife ordered the French Toast. She was very happy with it. She has a side of bacon, which she specified "Crispy", and it came as ordered.
I also decided to try the Million Dollar Bacon. This is 4 strips of thick cut bacon, seasoned with brown sugar, pepper and maple syrup. It was outstanding.
My wife had the regular coffee, which was flavorful, but not bitter. I had the cold brew, and I agree, it was very good. My wife also tried one of the fruity refresher drinks, which she liked.
Often when you go to a restaurant that is just opening, the service may not be up to snuff. I am happy to say that was not an issue here. There were First Watch training representatives supervising, and we were well attended to. Overall it was a great experience. I am pleased that we got this addition to our other breakfast restaurants in Conroe. Without naming names, there are a couple of places in the Woodlands that offer a great breakfast. The local places in Conroe, are OK. but not up to this level. It is nice to be able to get this kind of experience locally. We will...
Read moreI’m not normally one to leave reviews, in fact this is my first one but if you have young kids, DO NOT COME HERE. The staff is not welcoming of small children or babies. Our waitress and the manager of this location made my family so incredibly unwelcome and we will never return.
We were shown to our booth and our waitress came over immediately to introduce herself. While she was introducing herself, she stated that we couldn’t sit down because the high chair would be a fire hazard. We then proceeded to say that we could move tables but that our toddler would need to sit in a high chair in order to eat. Our waitress stated that they had no more tables available and that we couldn’t eat at this location due to our daughter needing to sit in a high chair. She then proceeded to go talk to her manager which granted us permission to sit down. We felt a little weird but proceeded to sit down. I then asked for a sling to put our car seat in. Our waitress rolled her eyes and stated that we couldn’t get a sling because it would pose a tripping hazard to the staff and also a fire hazard. I stated we could put her car seat in a corner so it would be out of the way and her response was “next time you call and make a reservation, please state that you have young children that require a sling and a high chair because we would’ve asked you to go elsewhere as we aren’t accommodating for them.” Our family immediately left due to the unwelcoming, unfriendly, and unprofessional staff. If you aren't accommodating of children then that should be listed somewhere on your website while booking a reservation. Also why do you have high chairs and slings if you don’t seat people with young children? We will never return to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to...
Read moreWe went last Monday with my parents visiting from out of state. Oddly enough, the last time we went was also when they were visiting from out of state…they always come in the morning so we decided to go for breakfast. Our first visit was a few weeks after the location opened so we figured they were still working out some kinks because the service was good but food took a little while, and we were missing some items that were supposed to come out that we had to ask for and one of the meals was made wrong. This time, the only thing that was made correctly was my son’s pancakes. My husband‘s grits were undercooked and did not have a lot of flavor. Both my stepmother’s and my poached eggs did not come out poached at all, they were cooked all the way through, they were essentially boiled. My dad‘s eggs were cooked over hard instead of over easy and bacon burnt. We had to request our eggs poached (2 for each of our entrees) and made new, and the server looked at us like we were crazy. It took about 10 minutes for new poached eggs to come out so by then the rest of my food and my stepmom‘s food was cold. My husband didn’t even bother mentioning his grits and just ate a little bit and he didn’t want to hassle/wait to send it back plus we had an infant with us. My dad didn’t bother either. He was irritated and just hungry. We won’t be back. With this many issues and having to wait so long for two meals to be fixed with the main item made wrong and everything else getting cold, and manager should’ve been sent out or we should’ve at least been comped half of what those two meals cost and the server never even made a mention of it nor did a manager come by so I doubt they even found out...
