Chako Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in Covington

I really wanted to give 5 stars, but unfortunately I had mixed experiences. First time was excellent. I called shortly after closing and they were nice enough to let me purchase bakery items. We came back a few days later but disappointed that they got our order wrong. Also had to remind staff to bring our soup, silverware, and tea.

The meals were good, traditional Japanese dishes. However, they really shine in their pastries! Their rolls are not too sweet. I recommend the cream puffs, espresso cake, and apricot glazed pastry. Located in a quaint part of Covington, although parking can be difficult so be prepared to walk. The restaurant is clean, but somewhat plain. Hours are unfortunately short as they close at 3 pm. I went with my mother in law , she come from San Francisco to visit (she is Hawaian _japanese) So we enter to ask if they have the miso soup, the chicken and rice ball combo. We went to back seat st the table. We wait for the server but was a teenager that looks that didn’t have experience. We wait and wait for 25 min and I went to the front to ask why was took so long. The lady ask again what we want. Patiendly we wait so more and the guy bring 2 plate with the chicken and the soup only no the onigiri. We ask again for the onigiri , wait for 10 min more al ready we was starving. 45min to an hour waiting and the food was cold and so-so. My mother in law had bad impression and we was dissapointed. I don’t go again.

Wonderful little cafe in the Cincinnati metro area! I've been wanting to try it for some time but live on the other side of town. Finally took the day to drive over the river and try it. I got the onigiri and karaage combo with miso soup. Everything was yummy and I especially loved the soup. Also ordered a slice of the strawberry roll cake and it was probably one of the best cakes I have tasted. Not too sweet but delicious. Everything was very fresh and the 2 women working behind the counter were both kind and friendly. Also, Google says dine-in is not available currently but it is. They have a small dining area behind the front counter and it was open for customers to eat in. All in all, I will definitely be back to try more of...
