Vibe - The aesthetic is upscale and the giant tree is something different. The whole ambiance is not really my thing... kinda plush... but most people seem to like it.
Service - Service at the bar was a bit slow, but not unreasonable given they seem to get very crowded on the weekends. I would recommend going outside of peak hours if you prefer a less crowded bar.
Drinks - The cocktails are pretty good, or hit the "specialty cocktail bar standard", but I don't think they justify the prices on the menu for this area. You can get a lot of good cocktails around Covington without paying this much. I was also hoping to find a bit more bourbon selection than what they had, it is NKY after all.
Prices - I talked to several other people who've gone in the first few months and each one independently raised the point about the prices just feeling too high. Most also only visited once. I understand they are a new nicer bar and set the prices at the top of the market. Personally I would rather see something more unique and some sort of specials. Pretty much every other cocktail bar I usually take people to around OTR / Downtown / NKY has more affordable options, both for cocktails and otherwise.
Overall - For me, I was split between 3/5 or 4/5... I rated 4/5 stars because it's new and I would like to see them find something unique to better stand out, but I enjoy their other bars (Somerset [5/5], Alice [4/5]). For me, Second Story just feels like it's missing that something special today to make it really unique or be on the same level as the other two. I also felt the cocktail and bourbon prices were just too high for the neighborhood. I'm not sure if I'd go back regularly or recommended it much right now. If they did something different on weekdays, added a good happy hour etc, that would be...
Read moreMy sister and I visited this bar last night. After offering to hold an item for us upon entry, they gave the item to the wrong customers on exit. We approached multiple employees about the mishap as they closed, but to no avail. Not only did they give us attitude, lie, and dismiss us entirely, but they even told my sister to "get a life" after we were already on our way out peacefully. It was completely unprofessional and out of line. If they weren't able to hold the item for us initially, they should've said otherwise, or at least said so with a disclaimer. It wasn't until we pushed further that they offered to take our number down and look into it. Instead, they fought us initially on how none of their employees would've offered, let alone stolen it. It's unfortunate that my sister, who is one of the sweetest people alive (despite this selfish and conceited world we live in), had to endure the apathy and disgruntlement of the employees. It builds character, and it's a reality check for sure. Trust me, my view on the majority of people is that they will do whatever it takes to get ahead, but that's not an excuse for how she was treated. It's a beautiful establishment, but we won't be returning due to the way they handled...
Read moreI like the atmosphere but it feels more like a spot for regulars. Order at the bar then find a seat. People talked about great service but I’m not sure what they’re talking about. No one talks to you unless you sit at the bar. I ordered the Jacks apple pie and i think they should have put the caramel syrup in the drink like a syrup instead of trying to drizzle it on top of the solid cold foam. The outside of my glass was covered in syrup including the handle. There was a table with food on it like someone brought appetizers but the only person I saw get stuff from it was someone who worked there to eat his self so I’m not sure if that was for everyone or just employees. There is no food menu. I wanted a cocktail bar but their selection honestly wasn’t that great for a bar that only serves drinks. If you want to come in, grab a drink and sit with friends for a couple hours then this is the place for you. Kind of reminds me of the alcohol version of a Starbucks but with...
