We went to taters a little over a week ago and it took an hour to get food. It started to get to the point it was like should we just leave?? I understand there’s busy hours and I understand that it’s not fast food but geez louise. That was just weird. It wasn’t crazy busy just normal. When we came in a few tables came after. Some who came after us got their food first. I saw another review mentioning that the way people are served is in random order. Bacon was inedible. I don’t know what they did to it but I’ve never tasted bacon in that “texture” before. It tasted microwaved or something… it was unlike ANY bacon I’ve ever tasted.
It seemed like it was baked in an oven or microwave in a pool of grease. I understand bacon is greasy, but I go out to eat for breakfast a lot. I know what bacon is supposed to taste like. This bacon though…something was not right. It was soooo soggy and grease filled. It broke into pieces when you touched it and grease would pool up. The texture and taste is what lead me to believe this bacon was not made the way other restaurants make their bacon and not in a good way either. Bro is really back there in the kitchen messing up bacon somehow. Dude it’s BACON. How can you mess that up?
I had my whole table try it and they agreed it tasted weird. I can even say I tried to eat it multiple times but I just couldn’t do it. I kept spitting it into my napkin. Something was so OFF about it. The way they cook it isn’t right. I have NEVER tasted bacon like that before and I’m not trying to be dramatic I’m genuinely being honest lol
As for the hash browns, I get the concept of what you were trying to do with them but they just didn’t nail it. It was crispy on the outside and sloppy on the inside like a weird mashed potato mix. Kinda okay but just no. Way too mushy for me. If you’re into that, maybe you’ll love it.
Toast was plain and had no butter. Bread tasted like it came from a cheap loaf. Usually at breakfast places they put butter on it without you asking or provide butter on the side.
The only thing decent was the egg and that’s sad for real.
I don’t recommend the tater bowl thing. The gravy used in the bowl had NO flavor. I repeat THE GRAVY HAD NO FLAVOR. It’s always sad when you have bad gravy from biscuits and gravy lol. You know what I mean? Again, I eat biscuits and gravy ALL the time and make it myself and eat out for breakfast often. I know what good gravy is. This was not it. Don’t do it. I saw other people liked it on reviews, so who knows maybe you’ll be a die hard fan of their gravy but I surely won’t.
Burger was good. Pancake was good. No problem there.
I was going to mention the bacon being gross, but my partner convinced me not to say anything cause they said the waitress seemed to have an attitude. (Which doesn’t phase me by any means) Look at the way they respond to reviews too. I wasn’t even going to ask for new bacon or a refund, I just wanted them to know something was not right about it.
I’m not the type of person to leave reviews, (until now ) or ask for refunds or discounts/ new food to be made when I’m at places. Plus, I’m not sure how they could have made the bacon right even if they did try to make it again since they don’t seem capable.
I’m a breakfast lover. I travel a lot. I’m just not really sure I’m willing to try it here again.
Still left a tip even though part of me didn’t want to. I had to get food to eat AFTER I left taters.
Good things:
I saw a lady eating a salad that looked good. Outside area looked nice. Little fish outside. The town is cute. Lots of cute older folks getting a bite to eat. Cute area. Nice little outside area to sit and wait. Quick to find a seat. Warm colors and warm vibe inside. Waitresses are always filling up waters, coffees etc
Friendly Police officers enjoyed a nice meal there and waved at us in parking lot. Service dogs allowed. Saw two and they were really cute. It seemed like a nice place for older folks to have a nice chat and get a bite to eat with their...
Read moreI have thought a lot about how best to leave this review after not recommending them and leaving a negative review on their Facebook page and what happened after with the owner. My husband and I prefer small family owned businesses because we like to support our local community. And on the referral of a friend we went to this establishment since we had just finished tests for my husband's cancer before surgery. We seated ourselves as the sign said to. The issue was our server was not friendly, in fact, it felt to us as though she didn't care we were there. Only when she delivered the bill and removed our plates did she seem to care. And this is pretty much what I stated on my review. This was met by a less than professional response by the owner of this restaurant. I should have screen shotted it and left it, but honestly, the owner was being her own worst enemy in being condescending and rude, which only got worse after I tried to explain had we gotten the smiling and laughing with her co-workers server I would have happily left a wonderful review. I gave this review a one star as my food was good. But I refuse to be treated badly with bad service AND a rude owner. I was certainly not the only person to bring up the bad service. And my friend who recommended it said her last time there was similar. A dry burger and bad service. Not the "VERY" friendly service the owner like to throw out at all the bad service/not recommended on their Facebook page. This could have gone so much better had she simply said, I am sorry you received bad service and it will be addressed. Please give us another try. But she didn't, she got defensive and rude. As a small business owner, it is our job to make sure that we retain customers, especially in a small town. If I had employees who provided poor service and I was rude to the customer, I would expect the customer to tell everyone in our small town. So I sincerely hope she learns something from this. No one will recommend any business with poor service, ever. That being said, I know she reads these... I hope she really thinks about what I said and watches how she responds to negative reviews. People come to to eat good food presented by friendly servers. If you're having an "off" day, at least be courteous. Word of mouth is one way small...
Read moreIn my opinion this is one of the greatest places to have breakfast in the town of Dallas! Their cinnamon rolls are some of the best that I've ever tasted and as far as size goes they can't beat.I ordered a cinnamon roll for my mother and I to share as an appetizer before our breakfast but by the time we'd finished our halves of the cinnamon roll we were already full. It was no problem though as the waitress kindly had the cook pack up our order to go.
It turned out that are breakfast on the town actually turned out as a two for one deal. A cinnamon roll for breakfast and a take home order that we ate for lunch. My mom's lunch was her 1/2 breakfast order that was perfect for smaller appetites like youngsters or older individuals. It had a half serving of hash browns, one egg, one piece of toast, two thick slices of smoked bacon and an orange slice. I on the other hand have a hardier appetite and had potato pancakes topped with the works (bacon bits, sour cream, and green onions), two eggs and two slices of crispy, thick sliced smoked bacon with an orange slice.
In addition to their cinnamon rolls and serving sizes Taters is also known for their biscuits and gravy. So if you are a lover of biscuits and gravy then you really need to put a visit to Taters on your bucket list. The taste of their biscuits and gravy are beyond belief. Not only that but the biscuits are huge and they don't skimp on their gravy. An order of biscuits and gravy takes up an entire plate at Taters!
If you're thinking by now that Taters only serves breakfast let me say they also serve great lunches and dinners. Their burgers are excellent and I love their chicken fried steak. Not only that but they have a great patio area out back which is great for dining, especially nowadays during Covid-19.
I've added photos from my visit on Aug. 21, 2020. My husband had an omelet with homemade bread and hash browns. I had 2 pieces of french toast with bacon and eggs. Both meals were scrumptious!
The only sad thing was there weren't any cinnamon rolls because we got there too late☹️. I really believe their cook needs to prepare MORE dough because they always seem to run out so quickly in the morning. I'd buy one every time I went there if they were available and I'm sure there are others that...
