We were looking for a new, interesting place and came across Cafe Alsace. This is a small, quiet little french restaurant that feels like a piece of France was dropped in the middle of Decatur Square.
I have a love of escargot in Garlic and Parsley butter, so I had to order theirs. To my delight, it came out with as many slices of their homemade baguette as escargots (6). If you have had this preparation, you know it is more about the sauce than the snails, and that sauce put a pleasurable smile on my face. The escargot themselves seemed a tad overdone, but overall, it was exceptional.
My wife ordered the Pâté du Chef, which had a deep, rich flavor of sweet, savory, and nutty elements. It was also served with several slices of their homemade baguette. This was also wonderful. It would be difficult to recommend one of our appetizers over the other since they were both so delicious.
For the main course, my wife had the Salmon Wellington, and I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The Wellington was much lighter than I expected, and the blending of the pastry with the salmon was unexpectedly fresh and flavorful.
Unfortunately, the Chicken Cordon Bleu was much heavier and did not really appeal to me. I had just a couple of bites and had to set it aside. This was really just a bad choice on my part since everything else was so good.
Finally, we almost never eat desserts at restaurants, but they had a dessert case that we had to investigate. We opted to take home their Lemon Tart and the Chocolate Pot de Creme. These were very rich and balanced each other with the lemon being slightly tart and the chocolate much heavier than a mousse. Though small, they lasted an hour as we took small bites while watching a movie on the couch.
Overall, we highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you are looking for a great little french café with high-quality food and a laid-back...
Read moreI came to Cafe Alsace for lunch after doing a Google search for French restaurants in Metro Atlanta GA. Thre reviews were very favorable. I drove all the way from Fayetteville GA to eat. I was surprised at how small the surroundings are. But that's ok. It's cozy. I did mention to the owner it was my first time Cafe Alsace. There was no conversationtional engagement except for what were menu specials and what I wanted to order. My glass of water wasn't refilled and the plate that my lunch was served on was chipped on one of the corners. The restaurant was about 3/5 full when I arrived. However, I was the only customer left when I paid my bill. I asked for two almond croissants to go and they were made as I waited. I ended with a bill of $27.00, not including tip for lunch (bowl of French onion soup and chicken salad on pretzel roll + green side salad) and take away (two almond croissants). The cost of lunch was around $17.00. Eleven dollars for a chicken salad sandwich was nothing special. For that price, it would have been nice to have something really special. It was average at best. I did like the French onion soup. However, not sure if two almond croissants are worth $5.00 each. I feel that I may have been overcharged. As a customer service professional, customer experience is extremely important to establish customer loyalty and repeat business. I am disappointed that my experience was not the best. Especially for a first time patron! If the experience was much better, I would have likely brought my wife for dinner. However, I won't do that. I am so sorry to post this two star review. However, with a little more effort from the owner, I may have rated Cafe Alsace higher. I won't...
Read moreI have been going to Cafe Alsace since I was a child and I keep on coming back each time I'm in Atlanta. Not only is the food and atmosphere incredible, Bénédicte, the owner, is such a genuine soul. Bénédicte always remembers my family and she and my mother have bonded over that fact that both of their daughter's share a love for horses. I've made a point to bring visiting friends and family to Cafe Alsace, as it allows a nice glimpse into the city of Atlanta but without the extra buzz. The restaurant is a small, quaint space, which is great because it is never too loud and you can always hear your dinner guests. The restaurant is decorated with items from Alsace and you can even buy some of the trinkets.
This is the home of my favorite salad in the world and I normally hate salads with all of my heart. The honey-fig dressing is life changing and the salad is always beautifully plated with lively greens and yummy tomatoes. My three favorite appetizers are the Brie aux Poires, the Tarte Flambee and the Pate du Chef. For entrees, anything and I mean anything is good. I typically order the Spaetzle aux Champignons, Veal Cordon Bleu, Truite en Papilloteveal, Spaetzle a L'Alsacienne, Confit de Canard, Choucroute Garnieonfit de Canard, Boeuf Wellington, or the special. All are delicious.
However, when it comes to ordering dessert, I dare never sway. Always and forever I pledge to thee.. The homemade honey and lavender ice cream that is. It is so gosh dag flabbin' good. Ugh, I just love this place. Great food, wine, beer, desserts, location and atmosphere. What more good...
