Visiting Atlanta. First time coming to this Jeni's in (neighboring) Decatur.
Said, "uh.. still trying it out" after a long delay of me doing nothing. The person behind the counter seemed a bit annoyed, which surprised me. Eventually understood I needed time to decide what I was doing / getting.
I sampled about 3 flavors. Darkest chocolate, brown sugar almond brittle, and Texas sheet cake. Each time the young lady seemed (considerably more) annoyed bc I was giving long pauses in between, and seemed unsure of everything.
Finally got asked to decide after a long delay, and I guess there was a line forming behind me. I don't understand why not just switch to them as I was just running around sampling flavors with naught a care in the world, but I guess it's whatever. The wording actually was like "You can get the standard cup, that's the smallest one. So you can try 2. So did you like the chocolate flavors of those ones?" So not too rude, but putting unduly pressure on me, so felt like I was being put on the spot the same.
Like I say, it's all just whatever to me. I decided to go w/ the Standard Cup because that's what I felt like, I guess. Also their cheapest option looks like, though at 7$ plus taxes and (lack of) tip, I feel that's pushing it a bit. But whatever, it's my birth-week so I try to put on a not-altogether dark smile, and have a good(ish) time.
So the Standard size, though I wasn't much feeling it I had that w/ the Darkest Chocolate & Texas Sheet Cake. Not really sure what/why I was doing what I was doing. I mean the flavors and/or taste weren't even halfway to the roof. And I had half of it, I guess I liked the Texas SC slightly more, but it was definitely a toss-up. I didn't really understand this Jeni's overall, TBH.
So I walked a little bit outside in the narrow streets under the hot summer sun, or I tried to anyway. I didn't get far but till the central courtyard, then I realized I was dancing in the shade and worrying about that overmuch rather than relaxing or tasting whatever I'd gotten, so I abandoned that idea after a while. Headed back inside the store, grabbed a round marble table with a seat for two, then waited as someone else helped me finish the rest.
Overall, great? Nah, not really.
Would I come back again? Nope, not unless they paid me to.
I guess ok spot, I feel like I'm down with Jeni's, but for some reason this location wasn't really my vibe, and I wasn't really feeling it. It is what it...

Read moreI am 100% a Jeni's fan, and I think you can't go wrong with any flavor or any location, but I wanted to write a bit about this location in Decature. The dining room is the largest of the three locations in Atlanta, and there are many outdoor tables, many/most with umbrellas. It's also right on the square downtown, which makes for a fun, relaxed atmosphere. If you're in the area and already have parking paid for, you should stop by!
Jeni's has a list of traditional flavors it offers consistently, but there's also a list of seasonal, limited edition flavors that are rotated out. Try everything you want, but just know that you might find a favorite that will only be around for a summer! (Such is my own fate.) My current favorites (summer 2016) are:
Sun-popped corn, which tastes like butter Atlantic Beach Pie, which has an interesting but amazing flavor combo of saltines and lemon Savannah Buttermint, which is basically after dinner mints in ice cream form Sweet cream biscuits and peach jam, which is summer in a cone
If you're more of the chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry type, there are flavors for you, too, but Jeni's always puts a spin on the usual favorites.
Enjoy your ice cream, though it's kind of...
