TLDR: Hummus not nearly as good. Kabobs are mostly the same. Price still high. Decor is cold and lacking.
This place used to be one of my favorites in all of Houston. It was bizarre that Houston's best Mediterranean food was in Deer Park. That was before the fire. I'd been eagerly awaiting the reopening and was excited when I got to go back.
Food The most disappointing party of coming back was that the hummus has changed. It used to be perfect, now it's extremely creamy with no flavor or texture. I sampled the lamb, shish, chicken, and shrimp kabobs. Lamb and shish were slightly overcooked and tough. This could have just been a mistake from the chef Chicken was perfect, and the shrimp was okay. I remember the shrimp differently, but it wasn't bad. The stuffed jalapenos changed as well. They taste like every other restaurant's stuffed jalapenos. That isn't to say they're bad, because they're not. I'm just saying that they used to have a unique take on stuffed jalapenos and I liked it.
Price If I'm going to pay $15 for a plate, I better be eating on a dish and proper silverware. Instead I was eating out of a styrofoam to-go box. Either adjust the price or serve with plates.
Decor Bibi's used to have it's own warm family run restaurant vibe. Now it feels like you're eating at a cheap Chinese shop like Wok Delite or something. Not a game changer, but it didn't help. I miss the older guy (owner?) taking my order. I understand he is probably tired of being up there or wants to do other things. (To the owner: since you changed the hummus recipe, you no longer need the old one. Let me...
Read moreBibis’ is a quaint family owned restaurant that has by far the freshest selection of food on Center Street. I used to order and dine in all the time at Bibis before the fire in September 2019. The food was always well seasoned, fresh etc. So I couldn’t wait until their announced re opening this summer. Ever since their re- opening l have ordered twice and today I dined In. First off I miss the familiar faces. Although I Understand they hired more help. Now the food - is it me? Or has the quality of the food changed - the seasonings on the meat are not the same- the hummus that I used to dream about and had to have at every visit now lacks in taste - like the pre made kind You get at the grocery store - something has changed . A few items are no longer on the menu and even the Baklava didn’t taste fresh. Even if it weren’t fresh the taste was just - different . I ate here atleast 1-2 times a week due to the proximity to work and also because it’s a great alternative to the usual fast food. But I have to say Bibi’s ... you don’t taste the same. Just letting you know if you have changed some things or maybe started using a different brand of ingredients or you have decided to start using pre made items — I can tell :-(. Friendliness of the staff was...
Read moreI've tried this place 1 time, and I WILL NEVER GO BACK.
It's pretty gross, overpriced, and the portions were small, so not worth the money. The letuce in the salad looked old, and the bakleva was hard. The minute we got the counter, the guy assumed we were hispanic, and thought he was cool by trying to speak spanish and smiling, BUT I'M INDIAN! Not every brown person is hispanic, I found that rude, because I know a lot of hispanics and they speak perfect english, and they find it rude when people speak spanish to them, when people think they can't speak it.
I heard the people that own it, have never owned a restaurant before, and it shows. The food was horrible, as I mentioned before.. I love Mediterranean food, and being a resident of Deer Park, I was so excited when they first opened., and thought finally somebody opened something good in Deer Park, but boy was I wrong! The day I went, there was a descent line, no big deal, but these days the parking lot is empty,...
