We were looking in our area for woodfire pizza and Forno Bello was one of the first to pop up. While it may have been great in the past, from our experience it seems like the staff on all levels have just given up. We started with a glass of wine recommended by another patron and we were happy with it. We ordered an appetizer and the stuffed portobello mushroom we had was really good. Everything was looking promising. Then came dinner... The salad my husband got had a generous portion and he said it was fine, my son loved their baked penne and was trying to stuff it in even when he was full, my daughter had the lasagna and while she didn't think it was bad (she liked it because it tasted just like the ravioli out of the can) the rest of us thought it lacked flavor and was bland. But the wood fire pizza... The whole reason we came to this place... The whole premise of the restaurant... Was undercooked on top (all veggies weren't fully cooked) and burnt and dry on the bottom. We've had wood fire pizza before, this was not it. My husband asked why it was literally black and the waitress disregarded the question and was like, *you ordered a wood fire pizza, they all come burnt* no, no they normally don't. Whatever, we hadn't eaten in 7 hours, we picked the uncooked veggies off and just ate around the black bubbles... But just the charred flavor was still burnt in there. So, long story short I'm giving Forno Bello a C as in... You'll never C me in there again. Bad food is one thing, but the staff brushing us off and trying to pass off burnt food as normal is not good.

there are several Italian places in the DeLand area but unfortunately this isn’t one i’d necessarily recommend. we were greeted by a hostess and seated right away since it was empty but it was several minutes before a waitress came by to get our drink order. after our drinks arrived, we asked for a coupe more minutes to review the menu. we regretted that as the waitress didn’t come back for quite a while. we finally placed our order- i had the Eggplant Margarita pizza and my friend had the Baked Penne. as we waited for our order, the restaurant filled up and we noticed that all of the tables around us received a bread basket and bowl of olive oil but we did not. the waitress then arrived with my pizza a few minutes later but the Baked Penne didn’t come until almost 10 minutes after that. the crust on the pizza was good but the rest of the dough was thin and soggy. the slices of fried eggplant were more breading than eggplant. the Baked Penne was okay- the sauce was quite clumpy due to the ricotta and it didn’t have much flavor, seemed pretty under-seasoned. the overall vibe of the restaurant is that of a typical Italian-American place with Tuscan-style decor and murals, although, there was a specific artwork that i actually really liked. the staff was friendly, just seemed to be a little forgetful even before it filled up. unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the first Italian place i’d recommend to someone in DeLand.

Disappointed. We were excited to visit an upscale Italian restaurant in downtown Deland so higher prices didn’t scare us. We felt very welcomed by our server. The nice surrounds have an exposed pizza station with wood-burning oven within the dining room. The first thing we noticed was the high prices and all entrees are a’la cart in case you want the typical side-salad. Well the $5 side-salad was about two cups of what appeared to be bagged mixed lettuce greens, three cherry tomatoes, three cucumber slices and three onion rings. Not a $5 salad! See picture. The $19 Seafood Cannelloni (3) appeared small but was was filling. It just seemed short of seafood ingredients that were too-finely chopped to be separately distinguished. The lobster cream sauce (aka lobster bisque) is to die for when hot. The $17 Lasagna was wonderful and not the typical separate tastes of pasta, ground beef, cheese and sauce. Quality ingredients blended with fine marinara sauce that should have been warmed in the wood oven before serving. But both dished were served just warm on cold plates which quickly cooled the entrees and especially the surrounding sauces. Prices are too high for what we got and we were charged a dollar more than what’s posted in their website.

The decor was very nice and the aviance made a good first impression. My husband and I started with the stuffed portabella mushroom. The flavor of the mushroom was terrific along with the spinach and ricotta cheese. Only problem was, each item was over salted. The salt overpowered the flavor. The dipping sauce for the bread also had too much salt in with the herbs. When the main meal arrived, they weren't very hot, almost room temperature. The lobster ravioli had a interesting presentation of black stripes in with the regular pasta, served with a creamy lobster sauce. It was a big plate with a few ravioli and lots of sauce, that wasn't over salted. This should have been served with bread. Waitress asked if we wanted some, the answer was yes of course, but she had forgotten to bring it out to us. Though, we did get a small basket of bread when we were first greated. The bread was delicious! Perfection! Moving on to the next item tried, we asked for a just a simple small pepperoni and cheese pizza. It was decent size and could feed 3 for lunch. The crust was a bit chewy, but tasty and not hard..had a good crunch. The marina sauce with the thick slices of pepperoni was very delicious, but yet it all was still too salty. I had to request a plate, since the plate with the pizza was the only plate given. Which would be ok, if I liked to pick up and eat with my hands, but I am one of the strange who likes to eat my pizza with a fork and knife. The service could have used a little work. Glasses were perfectly refilled and we were given extra napkins But, two items that were supposed to be brought to us were forgotten. My husband and I weren't impressed with the quality, quantity and price ratio. This place has Great potential and I hope they keep working on making it better! It might be a long while before I would attempt...

I’ve been here in the past and have had okay experience but unfortunately this time will be my last. We called ahead to place an order after looking at the menu online. We were quoted 30 minutes and arrived at that time. We had to wait another 30 minutes for our food, being told we were waiting on the chicken parm to finish cooking. It was frustrating that it was double the quoted time, but we understand with COVID some restaurants are short staffed. We drove home (about a 10 minute drive), opened the food for all of it to be cold- even the chicken parm we were waiting on. At this point we were hungry and frustrated that after waiting a bit longer than expected we would need to reheat our food. We then realized the bill was more than it should’ve been, so we called looking to speak with the manager. She was unavailable at the time, and the employee was very understanding and nice, letting us know that unfortunately she couldn’t do anything but she was take down our info and let the manager know. After waiting 4 days for the manager to reach out I called back and was able to speak with her. I’ve never been met with such a dismissive and rude attitude. After explaining the situation the manager let me know that I was in fact not overcharged because the prices we were charged were the actual prices, and that the website was not up to date. I respectfully let her know that I did not feel it was my fault the prices are incorrect on the website, and I was never previously told the prices on the website were incorrect, therefore I was overcharged. After going back & forth I was given no solution and worse, no apology. She couldn’t have cared less about the incorrect pricing or that there was an upset customer. Very...

We had been going to this restaurant for years. The pizza is pretty good but lately not so much. Crust is amazing and crispy but toppings shrinking. In any of the pizzas that have basil as a topping, well I’ve hardly seen any basil on them and I have to ask for extra.

About a month ago we got pizzas to go while we sat at persimmon Hollow nearby. We noted the price increases. The pizzas took twice as long as they told us and when my brussels sprouts pizza arrived, it was cold and instead of the normal thick sheets of pancetta and shaved brussels sprouts that were on the pizza there were shreds of brussels sprouts and a couple small chunks of pancetta. This was disappointing especially given the price increase.I called to complain and was offered another pizza. I wasn’t trying to get a free pizza and I didn’t want another pizza because I was starving but I just thought they should know in case someone needed training. The manager was rude to me and said OK and hung up.

We decided to give the restaurant one more chance after this disappointing experience last month. Noted also price increases on drinks, wine up to $12. And the wine was a very strict 5 ounce pour, not a drop more. We get that food prices are going up and there is inflation but for the prices we paid for our pizzas and drinks we expect a first class atmosphere. The windows were open and the sun was shining in my eyes and when I asked them to close the blinds they closed half of them. There was a TV above us playing news. And we were sat in the corner near bathroom. It just did not have the feel of $18 pizza at $12 glass of wine. We will not...
