The restaurant is in the heart of downtown Deland and easy to find. The inside of the restaurant is extremely narrow, just a little wider than a bowling lane (seriously, no joke!). At the entrance, there's a sign that says, "Please wait to be seated.", although there is no waiting area. The only place to stand was in the actual entrance and in between the tables. When no one came to greet us, we had to walk single file to the back of the restaurant where the servers were congregating and got in line to wait for our turn to be helped. While waiting for our turn, a patron who was sitting at a table eating dinner with his family, decided to move from where he was, to the other side of the table (don't blame him) and did not look happy about it. I'm guessing because of the cramped space between the aisle and tables, my daughter's must have touched his chair by accident. My daughter was mindful of trying not to bump/touch anyone's chair while waiting for our turn.
After being seated and orders placed, the food came out, we noticed only a one small banchan tray(sorry, don't know what it called in Vietnamese) dish was served with both our meals. Then we noticed our beverages had not been served and the utensils were missing. When no one came to check on us, my daughter went to the back by the register to ask about our missing items. She also had to pay for an additional banchan plate, which came in a smaller plate. 🤔
The food. The noodles where over cooked and, therefore, extremely soft, beef was soft not chewy, and the broth was ok and doable (for lack of better description).
I'm open to giving this place a 2nd chance to see if tonight was just an off night...
Read moreGreat addition to downtown Deland! It's a very small shop and gets full pretty quick, so it's best to go right when they open or at an off-peak time. Service is a little slow because there's only two people on the floor and about 11-ish tables, but it's worth the wait. Very clean, sort of a cozy/intimate vibe from the low lighting and brick walls in a very narrow room.
The shrimp summer rolls were perfect, rolled tight enough that the filling didn't spill out after one bite and had the perfect contrast of soft shrimp and noodles to crunchy lettuce and carrots, plus a killer peanut sauce that was slightly heavier on the fish sauce, giving it a wonderful saltier flavor and easier to dip. Many other places I've had summer rolls at have a super thick peanut sauce, almost like a paste, which is usually too close to just peanut butter for my taste.
I had the spicy beef noodle soup which wasn't very spicy, but they had sambal olek (chili garlic paste) and sriracha on the table to help bring it to your desired level of spice. The broth could've been a bit beefier, but it was all very fresh. I also had their fresh lemonade which was more on the sweet side, but still good, definitely fresh.
Dad had the Korean short ribs which were tender but chewy, which is a good thing in my book. Very flavorful and came with perfectly cooked jasmine rice. He also had a green tea Thai-style which had a floral taste that could've been made from a jasmine green, super delicious.
I'll definitely come back to try some of the other items and get more summer rolls. All of that for $30 was pretty good considering the size of the soup...
Read moreThis place came highly recommended so I was hopeful that I would love this place and it be one of those spots I don't mind a little drive out the way to get to...instead I was overall disappointed.
Service: The service could really be a lot better. You're barely greeted, just hurried to sit down at whatever table they tell you while they grab the menus to toss down on the table and disappear for an unreasonable amount of time. There's no introduction, no asking you if you've ever visited before, no asking if there are any questions they can answer, no advice on recommended dishes, no explanation of the food items...just NOTHING. Food: The only way I can describe the food is if that's all you have to eat in this world and do not want to starve then eat here. The steam buns were about the only thing worth a bite (hint the 2 star). Everything about the pho noodle was so bland bland bland...even the chicken was questionable...and that's if you can find a piece. Price: Simply not worth the price at all. $25+ later and I would've been better off going to Wendys 5x than to spend a $1 at this restaurant for such a disappointing meal. You only get one refill of a coke product for the price you pay which is ridiculous. I feel like they are overpriced for the sake of being overpriced because of the location. Space: The space is extremely small which is absolutely fine but the service should definitely reflect the typical small space service that one would expect...more care for the customer and attention considering it can only fit a handful of people.
Needless to say, I will not be a...
