We stopped by Hampton Social on a Sunday night to grab a bite and enjoy the beautiful weather. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a pretty rough experience from start to finish.
To begin, valet parking was $25 — a bit of a surprise, but we were already pulled up and didn’t feel like circling around for a spot. We started with two cocktails and a glass of wine for the three of us. One of us casually mentioned that the wine pour seemed light, but we were assured by the waiter that it was exactly five ounces, as advertised. Fair enough.
Since the restaurant is known for oysters, we ordered some — but were shocked to see they were $25 for six. We asked if they were good size and flavorful and were reassured on both points. We ordered 18 (six each), totaling $75. When they arrived, the largest one might’ve been the size of a half dollar — and that’s being generous. Many were poorly shucked, with split bellies and a mess of oyster bits in the shell. Disappointing. We didn’t bother complaining and decided to try the calamari instead. What we got was a very small portion, maybe enough for one person. Still hoping for a better experience, we ordered dinner. One of the dishes was fried oysters over a Caesar salad — probably not the best call given our earlier experience, but we figured maybe they used larger oysters for that. Nope. Same tiny oysters, drowned in heavy breading and deep-fried beyond recognition. They were completely inedible. We left that plate untouched and shared the other two dishes.
To be fair, the fish tacos were excellent. Easily the best part of the night.
Our waiter noticed the untouched salad and asked about it. We explained the oysters were terrible, and he admitted it wasn’t the first complaint he’d heard about that dish. We told him not to worry and just asked for the check. He returned and let us know the manager had taken the salad off the bill. While we appreciated that gesture, we hadn’t asked for it and were a little surprised that the manager never came by to say anything. To end the night, the valet situation was chaotic — about 40 annoyed people waiting for their cars, and no one taking tickets. After 30 minutes, my son went to get his own car (parked nearby) to take my mother-in-law home while I waited. I even asked if I could just pay and retrieve my car myself, but was told the cars were stacked in the garage and only the valet could get them. Eventually, I paid the $25 and got my car after another 10 minutes.
Delray Beach is a tourist-heavy area, and my sense is that this place is geared toward tourists they assume won’t return. But for locals, I’d say skip it — the food is subpar, the pours are light, and the oysters (which the restaurant supposedly prides itself on) were terrible. You’d be much better off heading to City Oyster in town or driving down to Southport Raw Bar in Fort Lauderdale. To be fair: the fish tacos were great, the location is lovely, and our waiter was friendly and professional despite everything. But overall, Hampton Social – Delray Beach is not for me.
A quick note: I usually only write reviews to highlight great experiences. I rarely leave negative feedback unless something was truly egregious — and in this case, I felt compelled. I’ve left hundreds of reviews and don’t bother if it’s just an average place or...
Read moreUpdate! We went back to the Hampton Social Club. The hostesses were nasty and snotty. Our table was right below 3 air conditioners and it felt like being in a meat locker, it was so cold. We asked to be seated outside where there were many open tables. We were told they were all reserved but they were still empty when we finished eating. Our waitress was a non waitress- we could hardly get a hold if her. The menu stated a description of items ordered, but in reality, the food had no relation to what was listed on the menu! Mac and cheese was made with SMOKED cheese, and smoked was not mentioned in the description, and there were also PEPPERS in the machine and cheese, not mentioned on the menu! Mac and smoked cheese and peppers???? Yuk! Inedible! The asparagus were burned and unrecognizable as asparagus- we had to ask what they were, as they didnt look or taste like asparagus! The salmon was lukewarm as was the pizza, as it must have been sitting there long before our invisible waitress showed up to bring it to the table. To add insult to.injury, there was a 20% service charge, and then a place to leave a top!!!! Seriously??? A 20% service charge AND a tip??? Everything there is a la carte now, even.if you ask for bread. On top of that, the loud club repetitive music with drums and no tune was deafening, making conversation impossible! This is a perfect example of grasping defeat from the jaws of victory, comparing to the last meal there, albeit that was a while ago. We will NOT be going back and I change my rating to a ONE star, zero, if possible! The hostesses need a major attitude adjustment. They were like salespeople in a snotty store, who think they are all that, and more. Nope, just nope Paying very high.prices to be aggravated and insulted is a no go, for us. Hampton Social Club should be renamed to Hampton ANTISocial Club, with lousy service at top dollar!
Really good food, here! The service is excellent and the ambience is great! The lobster roll is to die for- it is prepared like fresh lobster- not mayonaisey. You have to try it! You will thank me. It's chunks of...
Read moreMy friend and I had a reservation for 6pm this past friday for the galentines day special (unlimited frose + app for 90min @$40 per person). This was our first time there and we were very excited. we were seated relatively quickly but after 10 minutes had still not been greeted by a waiter, no waters and not even an i’ll be there in a minute. We decided to give it at least five more minutes before reaching out to someone. in the meantime at least two tables seated after us had been welcomed by a waiter and received waters. Eventually they realized the mistake and said there was a mix up with who had our table. We put in an order for two froses right away. we then waited about 10 more minutes and had yet to receive our drinks. The waitress came over and said their machine wasn’t working well and we asked to speak with manager as we worried about the time limit and also frustrated with the fact that we had no drinks for over 30 minutes. as she spoke to the manager we were greeted with only one sad looking frose. she returned saying they would extend our time but didn’t offer anything else. we expressed that we would still like the manager to come speak with us and that we were concerned that it took this long for one drink and did not want to have to wait over 30 min for each one. we were concerned that the “experience” of unlimited frose for $40 each would not be worth it. She spoke with him again, they glanced at us and the manager still did not come over to us. Instead he went and talked with his friend at another table. We were annoyed but figured maybe after his chat he would make his way over. We were wrong, he finished talking and walked away. Next we received a melted second rose. We spoke to our waitress and explained that we were upset with the lack of respect from the manager to completely ignore us the entire time and that although it was not her fault we would be leaving. We left the roses untouched and went on to have a great dinner down the street. We unfortunately don’t know the managers name because he never spoke to us but we were greatly disappointed with...
