Tonight was such a disappointment in so many ways. Having a little staycation in delray and I decided to take my wife and daughter to Vic & Angelo's. First and foremost, immediately upon walking in, we were taken aback by the lack of respect for social distancing. I'm all for businesses and restaurants being open but people were practically sitting on each other's laps. It was also so loud we couldn't even hear the waiter much less each other. Still though, I'd been salivating for that veal chop parm all day after reading the menu so we continued. Ordered the meatball to start, which we've had many times before. When it came out, it looked off and I quickly realized the ricotta was missing. Politely asked the waiter and he said "oh no, looks like they messed that up... I'll get you a side of it right away". After 10 minutes, I asked again, he apologized and said he'd get it... right away. This time he came back and informed us that the kitchen was out of ricotta. Next, after ordering spaghetti and meatballs for my daughter, I'm told they are out of spaghetti... the waiter says "I'll bring linguine and she won't know the difference". Rather an insulting connotation, I might say. Not sure how an Italian restaurant runs out of ricotta and spaghetti but would have been nice to know that when I ordered. Moving on to the star of the show, here comes the veal chop!!! First bite in is so chewy and grisly I think I must have cut into a bad part. Go in for number two, number three...I find myself having to spit out each bite as if it's a fatty piece of steak that you can't chew... it's the whole chop - inedible. As I bring this to the waiters attention, he apologizes and offered to remake it or bring me something else...says a manager will be over to talk to me and see what he can do. I decide not to order anything else and ask for the check. Still no manager comes over. As I'm quickly reviewing the check, I see they charged me $22.85 for a "kids pasta". I gave my card to the waiter and confirmed if that was correct - he says "yes, that's right... it's the upcharge for the meatball". To his credit, he brought the check back and said "I spoke to the manager and got it down to $14". What am I, buying a car? Really weird. Final note, a manager never came to see me. I read responses to some of the bad reviews from management and a common theme is "... we wish you would have brought this to a managers attention while you were here". I was there... it was brought to a managers attention and no one could find 90 seconds to walk over to my table? Hard to believe that anyone really cares. Sorry for the long review but I felt like details were needed. Can't see myself ever going back after this series of...
Read moreFair warning to anyone wondering if they should come here, read the reviews first. After getting to Atlantic Ave at 7:30 on a Saturday, the restaurant we wanted to go to was packed. Not wanting to wait 45 minutes, my fiancé and I decided to go to Vic & Angelo’s because we remember it being a pleasant experience years back when we had gone.
Where to start. The service was nothing to write home about. Our waiter had not the greatest attitude and wasn’t super attentive to our needs. No big deal, as I thought the food could’ve made up for it. I was poorly mistaken. We ordered the coal oven chicken wings, the parmigiana di melanzane, and the quattro formaggi tortellini.
The wings were a 3/10. There were 10 for $18. They were super dry and lacked flavor, and the only redeeming qualities were the char from the oven and the onions on top, which ended up covering a majority of the wings and made the skin no longer crispy. If you see these and think of Anthony’s Coal Fired wings like we did, I wouldn’t go for it. The fried eggplant was okay, maybe a 5/10. Better tasting than the wings but still disappointing for $18. The portion size of it was fine, but again, it was lacking in flavor. Finally, the tortellini were the only saving grace from this meal. I’m a huge fan of pear and cheese filling, and they nailed the filling. The pasta was made well, and the sauce tasted great but was a little grainy, not smooth. Was happy to pay $26 for it, would rate it an 8/10 and I would recommend those if you decide to come here.
Overall, I felt foolish spending $80 here after tip for mediocre food at best. Our check didn’t include any alcohol or dessert. Just two apps and an entree. There are so many options on the Ave and this was super disappointing. For the same price, I could go to Josie’s off Woolbright and get a very similar meal that tastes great. While I recognize things change, the food and service were not what we remembered and I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreManager was incredibly rude when we asked to use our groupon at the end of the dinner for the amount paid. He said even though the fine print states that the price paid for the groupon will NEVER expire that he doesn't accept them. (which is illegal by the way). I am fully aware that he received a check for 50% of all the groupons they sold during their promotion and its incredibly unethical to "take the money and run". He said call Groupon and get your money back because I can't help you. They should totally put this on their website or on their hostess stand since they sold OVER 2000 groupons (which is over $60,000 they made from selling these groupons for $59 a piece). When I asked for him to give me something in writing stating he wouldn't accept it so I could present it to groupon, he refused very rudely.
The waitress was very aloof and seemed annoyed with her job. With entrees being $20-$45 poor service ridiculous. Too many other great options in Delray to go to! A glass of cheap house wine was $11. Server acted annoyed when I asked about specials and handed me the print out on the table that I hadn't seen. If we are paying over $100 for dinner, I think service should reflect a fine dining experience. Definitely won't go back mainly b/c bad management and poor service. Poor service/bad management can totally ruin a great meal. Such a shame b/c food is great and I would have gone back for my birthday next week with a group had the service not be so bad and the manager not been a jerk. I used to be a server in college and I ALWAYS give servers the benefit of the doubt, am overly friendly to servers, and over tip. So this wasn't just me being a jerk of a customer (b/c let's face it, there are a lot of those).
Take your money elsewhere! These...
