I’ve gone to fluid probably 30-35 times now before work and ordered the same thing every time (to the point some of the baristas started to just know when I came in). I’m sad leaving this review, but the experience and interaction I had today with a staff member was the most negative and rudest experience in I think any service industry situation I’ve ever been in.
The drink I get every time is an iced colfax chai, I haven’t ordered a non-iced one or even a non-iced coffee in general in I don’t even honestly remember how long. The drinks came out and they were hot, TOTALLY understandable mixup that probably happens allllll the time at coffee shops.
The difference here, some new blonde dude is working there and he is an A#%-HOLE by the evrry plausible definition. The girl making the drinks was really sweet, and I kinda felt bad for her (especially having to remake the drink!). But this dude goes “yeahhhh..umm...if you tel us iced beforeeee it’s a LOT easier on us”. A weirded out by how he said it I just said “well, I did order it iced..I’ve actually ordered this drink here the same way for probably...” then he inturupted immediately “UMM..NOOOO YOU DID NOT!” Like woahhhh homeboy calm tf down?!
I’m kinda sad I liked Fluid a lot, but there’s a 0% chance I’m ever walking in there for coffee before work again. I get enough sh#% from other horrible humans all day, I don’t need a pre-pubescent boy who doesn’t know how to shower yelling at me for an order I’ve made 100+ times.
Funniest part is I told my gf about it right after (who lives in the apartments above the bar-she lovesss Fluid) and before I even finished the story she goes “it’s the new blonde kid isn’t it...” and I was...
Read moreWhen I travel for work, once I get to my hotel, I unpack and figure out where I am getting coffee in the morning. I know better than to drink the decaying packages of coffee in my hotel room to make with the $9 coffee maker. No, thank you. The coffee in the lobby? I am sure a kid has licked each item at that coffee bar.
No, I am fine doing a quick Yelp search for the nearest and greatest coffee in the area. Fluid popped up as being, basically, around the corner from my hotel after this search, so I headed on over.
Fluid is in a fairly nice looking, fairly new, fairly modern, fairly clean building. What is great is that when you head inside, it is a really cute local coffee shop with art on the walls and a great selection of to-go beverages.
Similar to all of those local, salt-of-the-earth coffee shops, the service was not warm, but it was efficient. That is all I need it to be, so I was satisfied. I ordered an almond milk latte (so many coffee shops don't even carry almond milk-- bonus) and it was excellent. Nice work, Fluid. Stop on by. It will be a nice, quick break in your morning to get a...
Read moreThis is an interesting find. The neighborhood is Uptown, in the middle of some fancy apartment buildings, so I was expecting snooty, prissy surroundings and people... It's honestly really nice, but also laid back. The music was reggae (probably the barista guy's personal choice), the barista was friendly, there are couches and tables, and the prices aren't insane (chai latte was $3/3.65/4.30 for 12oz/16oz/20oz). I think I'd definitely come again to hang out or work on a project.
DISABILITY-FRIENDLY RATING: 8/10 -- There are no stairs at the entrances or inside. The sidewalks outside are well-kept. The paths inside are mostly wide enough to fit a wheelchair or walker, though you may have to move around a chair or two whose legs are in the way... fortunately they're lightweight plastic. The single-occupancy bathrooms are larger enough for a wheelchair.
GENDER-FRIENDLY? -- The customers & staff seem chill and friendly. The bathrooms are single-occupancy, though...
