Please read before attending this establishment. Upon arrival, my family and I were treated with snarled dirty looks by the armed ushers. After sitting down, an usher from approximately 10 pews away, yelled at my family member to remove their hat. (Mind you we had just walked in and sat down no more than about 2 minutes apart.) The armed usher than continued to meet with another armed usher who approached us, unmasked and just minimal feet away, who proceeded to target one of my family members on how disrespectful it was to wear a beanie. This same usher failed to advise 4 other males wearing beanies or a hoodie, including one of which who was a priest. I found this ironic that the same usher enforcing the church “rules”, was breaking an established law to inform my family member of a broken rule, disregarding the safety of everyone around, maskless and combative. An usher of the church. The incident caused my family member to exit the church abruptly due to how we were treated and embarrassment from the uncalled for attack. To the Cathedral basilica of the immaculate conception, how disappointing, how heart breaking that the one place of peace and solitude is now a bad memory and experience. This Catholic Church has lost its moral compass. A rule of a hat triumphs over a family coming to church to enjoy the holiday and celebrate Jesus Christ. My question for the Arch Bishop and cathedral staff is, what if there is a medical condition where the only protection One has from others seeing effects of a sickness, is that hat? My family, other members around us who witnessed, and myself are disgusted and will never attend that cathedral again (after 16 years of midnight mass, and Sunday Mass). It has made us question the beliefs of Our faith. A “traditional, 1900’s , rule” over rides people of god coming to worship, the one place those should not feel unwanted. I am disappointed at the response from the acting supervisor of security during the situation who deflected and eluded that “you know how the area is, you know the people who are around here”. “The Arch Bishop is very conservative.” These statements are an example of a church, racially profiling the very people it is there to serve. I am sad I must even write this but this incident...
Read moreThe Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception isn’t just Denver’s mother church—it’s the soul of the city and the Pinnacled Glory of the West. I’ve known this cathedral all my life, and every time I walk through its great bronze doors, I feel like I’m returning home.
The architecture is breathtaking: French Gothic in style, yet entirely at home on the Colorado plains. The stained glass windows rival any in Europe, casting heavenly light through the nave that makes even an ordinary weekday feel like a moment outside of time. If you look closely, you’ll see saints from every nation —a reminder that this basilica was always meant to be a house of prayer for all peoples.
Beyond its beauty, this cathedral holds deep personal meaning for me. It’s a place of memory— of quiet prayers offered during some of the most difficult moments and best moments of my life. It’s where I’ve wrestled with doubt, rediscovered hope, and slowly found my way back to Christ.
Masses here are reverent, especially when celebrated ad orientem or with Latin Gregorian chant, and the priests who serve here—especially in the confessional—minister with both gentleness and conviction. Eucharistic Adoration, Solemn Vespers, and the Feast Day liturgies are all profoundly moving.
Despite all the changes in the Church and the world, the Cathedral remains a place where the sacred still feels sacred. It deserves to be treasured—not only for its heritage, but for the way it continues to nourish the soul of...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful and moving experience. I mean Mass is always gonna be great, but this was wonderful.
I love the 6:30 pm Sunday Mass. It's the perfect time I can tuck in my little ones with dad and go.
The Mass is completely in Latin at this Mass. they have guided but I wish they had more they can be tricky to find. But I mean I know the Mass so I wasnt lost.
Security is amazing. Bring on Colfax I thought it might be sketchy to park but they had security patrolling. There were also some in the church. They were also parishioners so it wasn't contracted company ( idk I just love that)
I like the confession but the priest was a little chatty which I usually don't mind but because of that some people couldn't go.
Twice a month they do Gregorian Chant. I truly reellike onion a whole different place in a different era. I also veil and there were a lot of others who do. I know I shouldn't, but I didn't feel as self conscious. Usually at other churches I'm the only one.
So if you're looking for a traditional, welcoming, beautiful place this is it. I love in Littleton and I will definitely be coming here...
