Kenji Sushi has a creative Sushi Chef and it is the few things on the menu that is good as well as consistent. Today, I ordered a vegetable sushi roll of avocado, cucumber and mango; a miso soup and a Chicken Yaki-Soba. The Sushi was delightful and fresh. The miso soup was just right as well. However, the Yaki-Soba tasted off. I am Asian and African American, I grew up with an Asian grandmother and spent almost ten years working in a Chinese Restaurant where celebrations were held at Sushi Den. I have had my share of really great Yaki-Soba. Kenji Sushi gave me a Yaki-Soba that tasted like it was cooked in a pan that soap wasn’t washed out completely or like all the ingredients were blanched in old water for longer than they needed too until even the meat tasted like nothing. Plus, it had an after taste like bad fish but not like fish sauce. The customer service at this point degraded. The waitress checked out and just left the table instead of offering to either remake the dish or take it off the bill. A man then came to my table stating I could take the leftovers with me. I refused and told him the food tasted off. Once again, the restaurant refused to take responsibility for the quality of their food and the man began to man-splain the differences between lo mein noodles and soba noodles. Please take your business elsewhere; they are not willing to take any accountability where 90% of the restaurants in the same area would have replaced or exchanged the meal for something else. Also, take into consideration that the Yaki-Soba is probably worth $3-$5 in ingredients to prepare and is sold for $13. There is mainly onions and noodles in the Kenji Sushi dish with maybe a tablespoon of chicken; julienne style. In this economy and with so many choices nearby, customer service...
Read moreThe All You Can Eat menu option is NOT worth it. Don't do it -- just order off the menu and it will still be less than AYCE. Plus, at least you'll get to take your excess fried rice without an additional charge.
At dinner last night with my girlfriend, we both wanted to order off the AYCE menu for $28.98, so we ordered gyoza, cucumber salad, avacado salad, crab wontons, three sushi rolls, 8 nigiri of tuna/salmon, fried rice, and chicken katsu. We understood before ordering, there would be an additional charge for sushi that is not eaten. We got the gyoza and wontons first and made those disappear. We then got the katsu and fried rice, we ate all off the chicken katsu and half the fried rice. Lastly, the rolls came out, and we killed all three rolls and the nigiri. We then at that point noticed the cucumber salad and avacado salad were never brought out, so at this point we asked our server to cancel those and she said she already cancelled them for us. Thinking that the server had our best pricing in mind, we appreciated her for taking this off our order. Then we got our check, and we were still charged an additional fee for "Opened food". The only thing we didn't stuff our faces with was half of the fried rice, which is NOT sushi which would have justified an additional charge. We didn't get the avacado salad and cucumber salad off the AYCE menu, so I would have liked to had those served to us if we were STILL going to be charged for "Opened food."
I regret eating and paying $85+ for two people to Kenji Sushi and for leaving a tip for...
Read moreWent here for lunch and it was decent until I noticed the dramtic difference in service compared to my caucasian counterpart. I was there before him so I was able to see how he was greeted, served (fast!), checked on, smiled excessively at, even her tone of voice was different while speaking to him in vibrant English. I thought that was pretty interesting. Not once did the same server check on me, talked like she barely knew English, and damn near acted like I was invisible. On top of that she brought me noticably discolored, dried out sushi that was nowhere near fresh. I attempted a small bite and it was hard as rubber. Nonetheless, the presentation was nice and she did remove it from my tab wihout giving me a hard time so that was good. As I left I was not thanked or acknowledged for my service. I personally consider this to be rude when standing face-to-face with a person after spending my hard earned money in their establishment. Me and the other guy were the only two customers there so the issue was pretty self-explanatory. I doubt I'll...
