The Crypt — Restaurant in Denver

I have been ‘dying’ to check this place out, being a horror fan and vegan, and it did not disappoint. We ordered falafel sandwiches, hummus, and eggplant parm sandwiches, all of them are prepared vegan without any alterations, or omitting important ingredients that actually make the sandwiches taste good. The falafel sandwich is quite delicious with baba and plenty of toppings included, making it pretty filling. The hummus tasted phenomenal with the veggies and toasted flat bread, and although I personally did not taste the eggplant sandwich, it looked out of this world. Not only is the food reasonably priced in a city of subpar, overpriced, overrated, food, but it’s also REALLY GOOD and plated nicely. I did not get to photograph anything because the atmosphere is super dark, including the bathrooms, so it is not the best lighting for photography. However, if you love horror or dark Halloween-esque vibes, you will enjoy The Crypt, as much as I did. In fact, I cannot wait to come back to try all the vegan options, since there are so many. Bonus for having to not worry about them messing up your food, since most items are vegan to begin with and they are very conscious about dietary restrictions such as gluten. Kudos to creepy dive bars with excellent vegan food for a price point that is legit not going to break the bank! Absolutely fantastic! We were so excited to visit The Crypt. We frequent dive bars, are huge horror fans and with one of us being being vegan, this sounded like our dream come true. The staff is so kind and the space is so rad, the drinks were perfect and the overall vibe (for lack of a better term) is killer. Everyone at The Crypt clearly cares about what they do, their customers and the experience they provide. If something isn’t quite right, they will go out of their way to fix it. They will go above and beyond to take care of you and ensure that you have an awesome experience here. The food was so good and so reasonably priced especially for the vegan items! There are a few hiccups that are expected with any new business, so I really encourage everyone to be gentle and be kind to this (and every small business) that is just starting out as they work to make everything run smoothly! These are hard times in general and supporting a small business is huge, especially one like The Crypt that is so deserving, and clearly cares about improving and learning and growing. We walked in a few minutes before opening and the employees (and a customer) were standing around but immediately yelled they weren’t open yet. So we exited and went to the brewery next door that kindly let us sit for a few minutes (they weren’t open either but let us stay) until the Crypt opened. After waiting 10 minutes we went back and sat at the bar. It’s a cool spot, but the overall feel is if you haven’t been a customer from the beginning, you aren’t cool enough to be there. They welcomed the ‘regulars’ with big smiles and cheery greeting but made us feel like we were bothering them just trying to have friendly conversation. We didn’t eat here and we only had a couple of beers. I would love to have a spot like this to frequent, but to be turned away from the door so angrily and then to be treated like it didn’t matter if we stayed or went left a severely bad taste in my mouth.
