This is my favorite coffee shop. It is so cute inside and out. The staff are all lovely. The food is amazing with an excellent vegetarian option as well. The drinks are wonderful too. When Weathervane was first recommended to me, it was suggested that I try their signature drink "The Happy Camper". I did on my first visit. It is absolutely delightful. However, over the years, my favorite has become the Cambric Tea made with Lavender Black tea. Recently I tried the Pumpkin Latte and it, too, was delicious.
Food items to note: the Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich, Chickpea Wrap, Breakfast Burrito, currently the Apple Butter Crunch Parfait is to die for. In the past, they've had monster cinnamon rolls with a dollop of cream cheese frosting. I can only eat about half of that in one sitting. Their oats options - perfection (Carrot Cake and Ginger Fig both great!) I forgot about the Pumpkin Chia Pudding! Also wonderful. Seriously all of their food is amazing and it's hard to decide each visit.
I like that they partner with other small businesses too. In the past they've worked with Bubby Goober's which unfortunately is closed now but more recently Pandemic Donuts has been on their menu. Speaking of Pandemics, when they had to shut down during COVID, they packaged their food items in to go meal kits for purchase so that all of their most recent stock of goods didn't go bad. To this day, making the Coconut Curry Quinoa Stew is one of my favorite dishes to make on a chilly fall day or snowy winter day. It was a cool way to stay connected to a favorite spot even while they were closed. As soon as they were able to open again (and did so conservatively), they had the option to rent out their upstairs sitting are for a very small group. The cost was ridiculously low but I was so eager to get back, I rented it for myself and three friends to sit and chat about books over a coffee.
They always think about their customers. As a somewhat neurospicy person, I appreciate that I don't have to approach the counter every time I visit. I can order online and select that my order is "For Here". It greatly reduces my anxiety. But when I do interact with staff, they are always so lovely, kind and welcoming. I also just enjoy listening to them interact with each other. Always so happy. I really appreciate this inclusive, considerate space.
The aesthetic of it all is so warm.
They also have a cool product section. I've purchased a flower print and a mason jar cozy...
Read moreBeing a jaded New Yorker, I came here on the recommendation from a friend during a cross country road trip, one in which I was trying to be terse and efficient in my route and timing.
At first blush, the Weathervane Cafe is an eclectic gem in an unassuming carriage house in uptown Denver, replete with repurposed vintage decor evoking a cozy, intimate vibe. But underneath this surface level first impression, replicated in dozens of hipster locales from Brooklyn to Ojai, is a deeply rooted hospitality, integrity, and passion for good food, strong coffee, and vibrant conversation.
Owners Lindsay and Alex Dalton have created a unique diamond in the rough by truly caring about the neighborhood, their clientele, and how and where they source their products and ingredients (almost all from within Colorado). Perusing their wide array of quirky greeting cards, artisanal jams and spreads, and natural herbal tinctures, whilst sipping my cold pressed coffee, I was struck by the honesty of their entrepreneurial integrity. In New York, even the small, individually owned coffee joints have a feeling of pomposity and disingenuous kitschiness due to the astronomical price for a cup of joe, necessary to pay the rent. But at The Weathervane, the price is great, the coffee delicious, and the vibe genuine.
My culinary choices on the trip thus far had been bland, fried, and dietarily questionable, but that all changed when I bit into the most delicious strawberry/rhubarb scone that I have ever had the pleasure to experience. I chased the scone with their breakfast burrito, filled with hash browns, egg, and pepper jack, all perfectly folded into a soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside tortilla wrap. Topped with homemade salsa, this mouth orgasm reminded me that the antidote to the malaise of truck stop fare was easily and heartily remedied with a dose of home cooking, where fresh ingredients matter, and the main one is love.
Though it was an all too quick stopover, it was absolutely vital in reinvigorating my excitement to get back on the road for the final third of my voyage. No longer dreading the next, inevitable truck stop pit stop, I said a final farewell to the friendly staff, got a hug from owner Lindsay, and walked to my car satisfied and sated, not just in my stomach, but in my heart. And with a scone for the road, I knew that feeling would stay with me...
Read moreUpdate to last review, staff upon seeing that I left a review stating that they no longer had WiFi became upset and asked us to leave. Very odd response to an honest review. Just wanted others to know that there is no WiFi before visiting. I have never seen or heard of a business kicking people out for leaving an honest reviews I will post original review below. A star for good coffee, and good food. Minus three starts for no WiFi and odd behavior by staff.
Staff argued with me that this was clearly posted on their website, I went back and checked and still do not see that posted anywhere let alone clearly. I did find it on their Instagram, however checking an business’s Instagram before going is not the norm. They did have signs inside, but NOTHING online which would be nice for patrons to know before going as WiFi is the norm for coffee shops in this day and age.
Based upon their responses to constructive reviews in the past I am fully expecting a passive aggressive response to this review which would totally be in line with how they treated us as customers in person.
Reply from owner- “ Oh, honey. I know you are upset that we asked you to leave the cafe. I want you to know that asking for respect is not combative. It's not "odd" to have and enforce boundaries and that's exactly what we were doing.
It is okay for a coffee shop not have Wi-Fi. Expectations/norms vary vastly from person to person. Holding tightly to norms and your expectations of the world quickly sweeps into an entitled corner.
We don't owe the public WiFi services.” This response honestly speaks more about how this business runs than my review ever could. Wowza.
Original review from me here that owner was upset about “I really love this place, However they got rid of the wifi. When asked why they said for Covid reasons. If you are coming here just know there is NO WIFI ANYMORE. Very inconvenient. Drinks are great, food is good and atmosphere is cozy. I just have never heard of a coffee shop getting rid of their wifi... This was not displayed on their website and their google reviews still had up that wifi was...
