Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant | Depoe Bay — Restaurant in Depoe Bay

We live in Newport but heard great things about this Mazatlan in Depoe Bay. The one in Newport sucks so we were excited to try this one out as we are desperate to find good Mexican food on the coast. We were so excited by the menu as it had the typical Mexican fare but also had some exotic choices as well. It had a wide range of food and quite a bit with octopus. Now, if you do octopus well, you have a beautiful, tasty delight. You overcook it; you will have chewy gumballs. No fun. I had the octopus and shrimp soup with avocado. It was delicious and fresh, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. Hubby had something that looked like a deconstructed fajita. It was huge! Overall, the food was fantastic. What a great little place in Depoe Bay to enjoy very yummy Mexican food. Also great views of the bay. Certain times of the year you can watch the whales going their blow spouts. Have eaten here in at least 5 different occasions when we come to stay the weekend at Trollers Lodge by local Fire Department. Last time we ate here I remarked to the owner that we enjoy our meals here more so than the Tidal Rave which is a very spendy $$$ place compared to the Mazatlan. The owner was our waiter & is very cordial and told about the history of the place. Very nice place, and most definitely always on our list of places to eat in Depoe Bay. I read the reviews when I go to restaurants; I usually throw out the highs and the lows and focus on the 2-3-4's. That's where you can get the solid info. I have to rate Matzalan a solid 5 however. great food, solid service, the atmosphere in was comfortable and the views out were spectacular. I had the enchilada combination plate; big plate and they filled it up! My partner had the Marisco Especial (or something like that); shrimp, octopus. I tasted that. It was delicious! It was a Tuesday night, last night, on February 20th. It seemed like most other restaurants had taken the night off or closed early, I don't know.
