Title: A Disheartening Experience at Everything Bagel
During our recent visit to Everything Bagel, we encountered an unfortunate level of disrespect from the owner that overshadowed what could have been a delightful experience. As first-time customers traveling to Destin, we were genuinely excited to try their rainbow bagels, especially since my daughter seen it on TikTok.
Upon entering, we approached the counter to place our order. As we asked a few questions—something any customer should feel entitled to do—the owner responded with a curt and dismissive, “Do you want it or not?” This attitude was unexpected and disheartening. Instead of encouraging us to explore the menu or providing the warmth one would hope to find in a local establishment, she made it clear that our inquiries were an inconvenience.
To make matters worse, her demeanor shifted from dismissive to outright uncomfortable. She began staring at us in a way that felt not only intrusive but also laden with bias—an experience that was particularly unsettling given that we are a family of color. It was hard to shake the feeling that her behavior was influenced by our appearance rather than our status as paying customers.
After this awkward exchange, we noticed her conferring with what appeared to be her husband. They both turned to look at us, further intensifying the discomfort of the situation. It was an experience that left us feeling unwelcomed.
Despite the owner's rudeness, we chose to spend our money there for the sake of our daughter, who was eager to try the bagels. This decision was further justified by the kindness of another staff member behind the counter—unfortunately, I did not catch her name, but she was a bright spot in our visit.
My advice to the owner of Everything Bagel is simple: respect and kindness should be afforded to all customers, regardless of their race or background. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, especially in a service setting where customer satisfaction should be paramount. While we may have left with bagels in hand, the interaction left a bad impression. I hope that in the future, the management can foster an environment that embraces inclusivity...
Read moreAs a business owner I am cautious and thoughtful before leaving a review for another small business. Unfortunately this business doesn’t understand its category. As others have pointed out it is extremely over priced. They charge a surcharge on any non plain bagel! Crazy. We spent $20 for one bacon egg and cheese everything bagel. I’m concerned the business will not be successful. The bagel was thin, and not very good flavor. A fresh thick bagel it was not.
We own another business next to a bagel shop in St. Augustine. Their bagels are displayed in large metal baskets on the wall filled with all different flavors. It $10 for a bagel, bacon, egg and cheese. They make everything fresh same day, throw out all bagels not sold at end of the day, and line out door every day. That tells you the margin is good.
At the the Destin Everything Bagel, the wall display on posts doesn’t work from a marketing perspective. Looks empty with only one bagel on a few posts - doesn’t merchandise well. Display cases are partially filled, again merchandise opportunity lost. Very large space means large lease. It’s was relatively empty at 8 AM - not a positive sign. I think the ownership needs to take a step back and course correct before...
Read moreVery overpriced for quality
I think the idea is a good one but the execution was lacking by a lot.
We ordered a few Avocado Toast bagels from the hot sandwich menu but there were several issues with them.
Nothing was hot. The egg was pre cooked and just put on the bagels. The avocado spread on one was brown, the others was green so I guess they finished a container of avocado spread for one but should not have used it if it were brown.
The bagels were not hot either. In fact they were all so crunchy it hurt to eat them. It seems they’re not freshly baked on location. They’re not fresh in any way. My toddler who loves bread and avocado like any toddler wouldn’t eat his sandwich because the bagel was so crunchy.
The big reason I left one star was the price of these bagels. Each Avocado Toast bagel was $14. Which is why I was expecting a fresh, handmade, hot sandwich.
I hate leaving negative reviews but I hope this either helps the business make some improvements or help other travelers from spending so much on...
