A fair meal experience. The food itself was pretty good. And the portion sizes were ample. The sides - I had Mac and cheese, baked beans, and collard greens along with their signature cornbread. All were good and are standard across their stores. The mac was fine (I like mine saucier and baked, but I knew what I was getting into here). The beans were also good with just a touch of smoke flavor. The collards were the star of the plate, cooked down well with slices of sausage. Just excellent. I have to say the disappointment for me on the plate was the smoked chicken. Now it was DONE all the way through which is great. But, you can see in the photo how light the skin is, a very light caramel color. There was no discernible smoke ring in light or dark meat which meant that the meat had only the slightest smoke flavor. And this meant that the sauce really overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. I've been smoking meats for 35 years More smoke flavor is needed to stand up to their flavorful sauce. Sonny's chicken is better than this for less cash. I was disappointed, and the sides redeemed the meal to three stars.
The customer service was good. After we placed our orders at the window and went into the seating area, there were quite a few unwiped tables. We ARE still in a pandemic y'all! When I asked the staff to wipe them they came right away. They seemed a little understaffed perhaps? But this isn't unusual right now as so many places need more employees. I completely understand, and they were helpful.
tl;dr - Food was pretty good, and there was plenty of it. But I needed more smoke on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give 10 stars I would!!!!! We were treated like guest at friends house. Nicole greeted us and went over the menu real quick. She was kind and helpful. Nicole told us about the sauces, specials, and ordering process. We ordered wings, ribs, burnt ends, mac n cheese, baked beans, collards, creamy coleslaw and the meals came with pan seared cornbread š© mmmmmm. Honorable mention to the marinated coleslaw it was good too but I preferred the creamy which is more zesty than creamy. It was a perfect slaw. The collards were on fire, the taste took me to South Georgia to an old lady's kitchen lots of flavor not salt or overly spiced. Mac was covered in cheese but it had a creamy cheese under that and it went thru the noodles, I appreciate that. The baked beans were seasoned and slow cooked. That slab of cornbread was surprisingly delicious sweet, savory, moist and solid. The ribs and wings are the blueprint. Both have amazing flavor and tenderness, I ate the ribs without sauce. Shotout to Moes white sauce here is better than jim and nicks. On to best part in my opinion The Burnt Ends were god level. They were meaty, fatty, tender sweet and mild. The seared fat melted and thrusted in my mouth to fuse with the meat creating a meat to meat ultra combo that I can't wait have again. Spend your money here. If you don't like this place you're ungrateful and nothing good will come to you. Thank you to the crew at Moes. Thanks to Nicole, Lance and Carlos for making our visit a welcoming that you rarely get when...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had to evacuate because of the hurricane and thus had an impromptu stay in Destin. This was the restaurant I decided to try while I was there. The food was great. I had a pulled pork sandwich, Brunswick stew, and baked beans. The baked beans and the pulled pork sandwich were my favorite of the three dishes, though I bet people who love Brunswick stew would love what's offered at Moe's. The only problem with this restaurant is it's difficult to choose what to eat since there's so many good options. But that's not a bad problem to have. I was told that all of the food, including the tea and desserts, are homemade. The prices weren't bad at all. You order at a window on the outside of the building, and there was seating inside. The seating was sort of an open area, so you could feel like you were outside or inside depending on where you sat. Despite having that outside feel, I never had any problem with flies. There was only one type of barbecue sauce. I liked it because it was a sweet, mild sauce. But they do offer hot sauce, which you could probably mix with the barbecue sauce if you wanted to. I also liked how there was a paper towel roll at every table since the barbecue sauce did make me need a lot of paper towels. The service was great. I talked to one of the people working there after eating and we had such a great conversation. My food was also done almost immediately because I took a few minutes to choose what to order. I'm glad I decided to try Moe's for my only...
