Been wanting to try this place out for quite a while now. Yesterday was my girlfriends birthday (party of 3) and here is how it went. Now mind you, I'm a contractor by trade so I've eaten all over Michigan and all the way down the east coast. Really nice places, and also eat gas station lunches most days. lol Dinner reservations at 630. They were running a little behind which wasn't a big deal. Shortly thereafter we were seated at the table and greeted by our server Niela E (I'd highly recommend asking for someone else). We ordered our drinks, app, and dinner. After about 20 minutes the drinks came 1 by 1 here and there (3 drinks total). After roughly 35 minutes the app came (Rudolph red nose mac and cheese balls). It was good. No complaints thus far except the waitress never came back to check on the table until the app came out. By then my drink was long gone, never was asked for a new one. Dinner came. The salmon was good. Mushrooms tasted horrible, almost like they were going bad and was never properly cleaned, burgers were extremely dry and the buns you could of threw through the window or used as to drive nails through walls. The sliders were so bad even my 7 year old refused to eat them. About an 45 minutes later the waitress came back and had our bill printed before we were even offered dessert. Dessert is kinda the whole point for going to a place called "The Sugar Factory". Anyways, I told her again we were there for a birthday and my girlfriend and daughter ordered dessert (I was already over the place with its lackluster service and subpar food). 25 mins or so later here comes the desserts. My daughter got an ice cream with a brownie, she liked it. My girlfriends dessert was strawberry ice cream w/cheesecake, whipped cream, strawberrys, and chocolate. It was completely frozen. Whipped cream was frozen, strawberries were frozen solid to the point where you would need a chisel to get it apart. We sent it back, they removed it off the bill and still charged me $5 for the candle that came on it. Now time to pay the bill. They automatically charged me 20% gratuity with no option for more or less. Now from my experience gratuity is given to the wait staff based on their performance. In my opinion the waitress was probably 10-12% gratuity tops based on her performance (sub par at best). I normally tip 20-30% by the way. What I don't understand is they take 3% out of the 20% they automatically charge you for a tip to cover a "service charge". One would think that would be included in the high markup of the food and drinks? So not only are they charging you an additional 20% without telling you first, they're also taking from there servers and staff for the ones that actually do their jobs well. Awful $217 was the bill. Honestly, I would have rather eaten at Speedway for $20. Over Priced, Under Delivered, and Highly Disappointed. I wouldn't give them a 2nd chance. It was that bad

Me and my family had 2 reservation for Saturday March 8th. One was at six thirty, and the other one was at six forty five. It was my nephew, third birthday, when we made a reservation for, they has special request, so we request that they sing happy birthday to my nephew, we never got that. Our reservations was at six thirty, I got there early just so we could get our table, and they told us that we had to have seven or more people, so we could sit down.So we say cool, my family showed up, it was over seven of us. They had us waiting almost 25 minutes before they set us down. And then when they set us down, we're sitting right by the door the door that rotates, it's cold, all the air coming in, people coming in and out of that door. And then the music was soooooooo loud.Oh my god,They had a sit in the back.I guess the speaker was right next to us or on top of us.Whatever the case may be, the music was asf loud, it was unprofessional, it was not right? We couldn't hear it wasn't a vibe at all. They took us a minute to give us menus our waitress. He was something else. I think his name was Malachi or something s*** like that, but he was something else. The first he come over to the table. He caught his tips from another table. He barely got our orders, right? We had to wait 25 minutes for our drinks. We had to wait almost an hour for us to just get food. One of my sisters never received her food. My other sister never got her dressing. It was just a whole mess going there. We spent almost seven hundred dollars at this place, They couldn't sing happy birthday for my nephew. And we spent almost seven hundred dollars talking about, it's gonna be extra extra for what we just spent almost seven hundred dollars in here. Me and my family would never go back to here. They was rude. The service was not good at all. I mean, they service sucks. I don't care if it was on a Saturday. They should have better service than that. The waiter didn't even do his correctly job. He made over hundred dollars for what he didn't do nothing, he barely did anything.Well, he made a hundred dollars off my table. I feel that a a waitress supposed to work for their tips.We not just supposed to give you tips just because you worked there.Just because there's a name on the place don't mean you are entitled to a tip or gratuity. I will tell anybody that wants to hear. Never go to the sugar factory downtown in Detroit. Because they are very, very, very unprofessional. Never again 20% for whaaaattttt. We should have the choice to pay our waitress. That's why I call it tip when they do their job when they don't do their job. Why do we have to pay them that don't make sense?Giving our money away to the people that don't do their job.

I was so excited to come here with my friends. We were celebrating a birthday and we heard about what the Sugar Factory did for people on their birthday. What I liked: the atmosphere. This place was the very definition of lit; the music, the decor, it was all so energetic. And the dancing was phenomenal. The routine for my friend was fantastic and she was so happy. The food was also amazing. They have a very diverse menu, but because it was my first time there, I stuck with something simple: the classic Sugar Factory burger. Simple but tasty. Their drinks were my favorite. I split three mimosas with a friend, and in true Sugar Factory fashion, they came with these complementary candy gummies. So good! Unfortunately, there were many factors about the experience that my party and I didn't like. For one, it took them 2 hours to seat us even though we had a reservation. The girl at the front clearly didn't know what she was doing, and she had a bit of an attitude. I understand it was a busy night, but that just isn't professional. When we finally got seated, it took them a while to take our orders, and when they did finally take our food orders, they forgot to take down 2 of our orders. By the time my friends finally got their food, most of us were already done eating. We had similar issues at the bar; 2 of my friends went to get some gummy bear shots at the bar and it took a while before they got them and their check. They had to remake the drinks, too, because they were funky. And even though I enjoyed the dancing, I think it was part of the reason the service was so bad; there were so many other birthdays happening that night besides my friend's. Our waitress said they were understaffed, but if that's the case, they should really be more organized about who serves and who dances. We went up front to pay, my friends who received their food late were thankfully compensated for their meal, but unfortunately they were charged for something they didn't order. Needless to say, they're never coming back. As for me, I'd be willing to give this place a second chance and come earlier for lunch. Hopefully it won't be as busy as it is in the evenings, and the service will be better.

I don’t leave reviews but I had such a bad experience for my first time at a Sugar Factory at this Detroit location. We walked in and there was no one to greet us. So I walked in a little further and it was quite empty. 2 couples at the bar and 1 at a table. No employees visible to the eye. We stood there waiting for someone. I noticed that there were multiple tables that still had dishes on them from previous diners that day. After about 5 minutes, the bartender suggested he’d clean off a table and to give him a minute. Still happy at this point, we walked back to the front and looked over the menus so we’d know what kind of drink we wanted. After all, this is what this place is known for. Another employee, who was clearly high, came over to seat us after about 5 minutes. He didn’t introduce himself but gave us menus and walked away. He came back with waters and left again. He returned shortly after and we put in for one drink to share and a hot honey pizza. He didn’t write it down or have a pad of paper… nothing. Pure memory. 25 minutes went by and we stopped the waiter that took our order to ask if he’d put in for our drink. He mumbled something about the ice and walked away. We watched him put the ice in our cup and then delivered the cup with ice and candy in it. He walked away again. I’m watching over by the bar to see where our drink actually was. Another woman, who apparently works there, grabbed a silver shaker and the bartender was talking to her about how it’s not the right drink but it’s going to be good anyway… and then proceeded to our table and asked if I wanted to record. Totally flabbergasted at what I had just heard and the experience so far, i just quickly said yes while internally trying to shake off the poor service we experienced since stepping foot in there. I recorded her pouring our drink and she left. The drink was delicious but it didn’t taste as if it had alcohol in it. It took us 35 minutes to get our drink in a non busy environment. While we waited for the pizza, I went the the bathroom. It was disgusting!!! One stall is out of service in the women’s bathroom. There was no toilet paper in the stall I went into. The soap dispenser is broke. It was just all around unclean. The pizza gets brought out and it looked delicious. It was warm, not hot, and it tasted like microwave pizza. The bread was doughy and just didn’t seem cooked. Now, I’m pissed. We asked for our bill, paid and when we got up to leave a couple asked us how long it took for us to get our drinks or food. There was also people waiting on the door to be seated when we left. I don’t recommend this location AT ALL and I’m high disappointed in the service, food quality and overall experience I had for...
