I first visited the popcorn store in Somerset, which is Detroit Water Ice's sister store. The lady working had excellent customer service and gave us samples to try!
I believe it was the same person working in Detroit, and I appreciate how sweet she is a lot. I came in with 2 of my friends, and she kindly answered all the questions we had about flavors and such. All the water ice is dairy-free, which is a win for our lactose intolerance. My friend got swedish fish and banana. I got motown mash and banana. Neither of us like banana flavored foods but oh my god. It was so good!! I should note- Motown Mash was described to us like whipped cream with chocolate chip cookies mixed in, so probably not dairy free, but it was heavenly- with the cookie chunks and the marshmallow-fluff-like consistency, I'm salivating just talking about it haha. It's awesome it's in downtown Detroit, but not so awesome that it's so out of the way for me. I'll still be coming back down with my friends for sure!! I'll sure miss this a lot when I move to California.
(They also have flavored hot chocolate, which I have yet to try but I...
Read moreJust picked up my daughter from here and she said two of the workers were talking and saying that they don’t like kids. I don’t know where they think they gonna work or live at and not have to deal with kids. They need to get a new job. She said it was a tall white man in a short black lady. And that the short black lady is the one who said it to the man and then they started having a conversation about it. It people of your own race being negative. We recently moved here and this was my daughter first time coming here as well as her first time going out somewhere with friends. She just made friends at the school she is currently attending. We will not return. My daughter and her friends did not cause any problems in this establishment. My daughter is very well behaved and is a honor roll student and got into the number one school in our school district. A school that you have to take a test to get in as well as have atleast a 3.0 gpa. So whether or not your children are well behaved the workers at this establishment do not like kids so do not give them your money! This establishment is not...
Read moreThis little shop on Woodward Avenue is the perfect example that excessive ice cream consumption CAN make this World a better place. Over the past weekend we visited the Detroit Water Ice Factory in downtown Detroit. The combination of ice, ice cream and flavorings were absolutely delicious, and we can only highly recommend this place. More importantly, however, is that this business is not for profit. All profits go to local charities that support our neediest fellow citizens. The supervisor, Jeremiah, was amazing, too. He was working by himself over the busiest shopping weekend of the year, assisting every customer with a smile and a kind word. Spending a little time inside a store, he told us about the store, the products and mission. Jeremiah is just a wonderful human being, and he makes all the water ice himself. Clearly, his attire alone should point to the fact that he’s alright right from the start. If you’re doing nothing else in Detroit, go and visit the Detroit Water Ice Factory! Enjoy a great treat and...
