We really enjoyed our first time here. We walked in, not knowing what to expect, but were greeted by 2 friendly staff members. They asked if we wanted a table or booth. They had to set up a booth in the bar area because the AC in the main dining room wasn't working really well.
They went over a few drink specials while we waited for the booth to be set up. After we were sat, my wife ordered a muddled cucumber drink, which she enjoyed. I ordered and enjoyed the "Solo Cup" which was rum, malibu, sprite, and grenadine.
Our server went over the menu with us and let us know what they are known for and offered a few recommendations, then left us to have a few minutes to figure out what we wanted. We ordered the flounder basket with an upgrade to the crab fries and a combo, which included snow crab, scallops, head-off shrimp, a potato, sausage, and a piece of corn on the cob.
The flounder basket was really tasty. It came out very hot, fresh from the fryer and served with tartar sauce. I thought it was also a really good value for the amount of food we received.
The combo came with a choice of sauces. We chose the garlic butter sauce and asked for a side of the Cajun sauce. It came out in a bag with a really good amount of sauce and served on a metal platter. We shook it up really well and opened it after we donned our bibs to protect our clothes from the eventual explosion of shell and sauce. We had a great time working through the shell to get at the wonderfully garlic and butter flavored crab and shrimp. The wife loves scallops, so by the time I got to them, they were mostly gone!
The only real detriment to the meal was that the sausage was very salty. I think when we go back, we will order the boiled eggs instead. We also would say that after a hands on meal like this, some wet wipes or hot towels would really be the icing on the cake.
Overall, the service was very friendly and attentive, the food was great, and the ambiance was comfortable and cozy. It reminds me of a small harbor town seafood restaurant. We will...
Read moreWe’ve been loyal customers at Crab Du Jour in Dover for a long time, but after our recent visit, we will never be coming back. The service was an absolute disaster from the moment we walked in. The dining room was 3/4 full, and one poor server was expected to manage the entire floor by hisself with no help in sight. That was just the beginning.
My mom ordered a seafood boil that was supposed to come with lobster, crawfish, and sausage. Instead, it arrived with clams—which she is allergic to. She told the server immediately and said she couldn’t eat it. The server had it remade, but the second time it came out, it looked like they just picked the clams out and served the same meal. After a few bites, she found clams hiding underneath the food. Seriously?
It was returned again and came back a third time—by then, everyone else was finished eating. We waited forever for the check, only to be charged full price for everything. Not a single manager came to our table to address the food allergy situation, which could’ve easily landed my mom in the hospital.
When I went to the front to speak to someone, another server tried to help but said she was afraid to do anything because the manager would “freak out.” Sure enough, when the manager finally showed up, he was dismissive, talked over me, and showed zero concern. His response? A measly 10% off the incorrect meal and blamed us for not “calling ahead.” Are you serious?
As a restaurant manager myself for over 10 years, I was appalled. Not only did he raise his voice, but he ultimately gave us a laughable $20 off a $160 bill—after nearly serving someone with a food allergy twice.
This is NOT how you run a business. The lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic care for customer safety was inexcusable. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy here. Stay far away from this location unless you want a side of disrespect with...
Read moreThere was no long wait except on waiting for our party of four to be recognized. The building possessed a strong foul odor. The smell wore off after we got our food. But was very unpleasant. The server was ok. She was overwhelmed, kinda all over the place. The food took all of 20 minutes and was in front of us. After she finally rung it in. Which took her 15 mins after she took our orders. We watched the manager greet another table in the restaurant. It was approximately 3 tables reserved including ours. The manager never greeted us even though I complained of the crab fries. Which were a handful of fries some canned crabmeat mixed with old bay and some type of honey mayonnaise with lemon pepper in it squirted on top. It was horrible. I told my server it tasted like honey mustard she assured me it was made with mayo and du jour sauce 😭They removed it from the bill, but the manager never greeted which was odd. Or came to speak with us about our concern. He actually kept actin like he was on the phone or super busy. Making sure he never connected eyes and moved funny. Most of the employees were seated. Just chilling. I asked for a refill in a paper cup but was told i would have to wait until she did a bunch of things because she was busy. We were standing ready to go. I kindly declined and we left. The food was good besides the fries. And the shrimp were bland. The crab legs were good and the potatoes and sausage. My children liked the fried shrimp & cajun fries. The coke was flat. The atmosphere is tense, and I think my darkened skin offended the manager. Be aware of being judged for...
