The King of Creams — Restaurant in Duluth

UPDATE (5/26/19): After posting 99 reviews (with 14 negative reviews) in the past few years, this was the first time that an owner attempted to contact me. Not only did he apologize, he told me that they were training a new cook, he told me what he expects from his employees, he told me that what happened was unacceptable, and he told me how he was going to change things. We exchanged a few very positive messages. I am more than convinced that my experience was a “one-off” experience, so I am changing my rating to 5 stars. If nothing else, I have never seen an owner care about a customer’s experience as much as the owner of this restaurant. My family and I will be visiting this restaurant again in 3-4 weeks. If my experience is anything other than excellent (as I expect it will be), I will update my review. Also, I should mention that the details about the order of onion rings was incorrect due to the new cook.

Original Post: We came here because of all the great reviews, but we were disappointed. We asked for well done burgers, but they came out burned and crunchy (although the non-burned parts did taste good). We ended up paying for extras on the "free toppings" list (without knowing it) but didn't even get what we ordered (items were missing from 2 of the 3 burgers). For $3.99, you get 7 tiny onion rings that were over cooked and very crunchy. Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but I don't think we will...

3.5 Stars--Good, not Great.

When we arrived we were the only customers. It took over half an hour to get our food, which isn't great if you're hungry or have hungry kiddos. The wait would have been tolerable if the food was outstanding... but it was just okay, over all.

The burgers are the stand out for this place. My husband and daughter got burgers (her a kid's, and he a 1/2 lb). They were great. Juicy, not greasy, well-seasoned. However, the philly cheesesteak was disappointing. It tasted okay, but it was DRY. More like an okay french dip with no jus. The meat was not fresh like the ground beef. Onions rings were good and crunchy. Pickles tasted good, but were pretty greasy on the bottom. The ice cream is good quality and the shakes are good, if a little milky.

We'll probably go back when we have the time to wait, and stick to...

Unclean King of Cream. Saturday in the summer. The tables were dirty and sticky . There was mold under the soda dispenser and a dirty vacume cleaner was left at condiment table (see photos). Trash on the floor. The soda dispenser was leaking water in a large puddle on the floor and appears to have been that way for some time (hence the mold). On top of every thing else they were understaffed with just one person taking orders and payment for ice cream, and serving it, and taking phone orders as well.

For any friends and family of the owners reading this, may I suggest a volunteer effort to help them out? Check with the owner first and then stop by to help with cleanup to help them return their much loved business to it's...
