It has taken me a few days to process the truly unkind and unnecessary actions of whom I assume was the manager of Animas Chocolate and Coffee that occurred on 12/9/22. My twin toddlers were having a difficult time and simultaneously throwing a tantrum, as toddlers tend to do. As any parent knows, this is the absolute last thing you want to deal with especially when you are in a public place. What occurred next still dumbfounds me and disappoints me beyond measure. The “manager” approached our table aggressively, placing both hands on the table and began to both lecture and scold my husband and I on the tantrums our toddlers were throwing. His exact words were “that we need to mitigate this situation.” We were aware, and are aware that no one wants to hear screaming children but we were doing the best that we could in that moment after just barely receiving our coffee and hot chocolate. It shocked us and quite frankly upset me to the core. The manager made us very aware that we were not welcome in this place of business and that we should leave because we were not the only patrons in the store and we were ruining it for everyone else. I would like to add that this all occurred within maybe a 10 minute max time period. I can honestly say that this was one of my biggest nightmares as a parent coming to fruition; my child upset and having a difficult time and a stranger being nothing but cruel and judgmental. This person made an already difficult situation an impossible one. He did not help mitigate this situation whatsoever and instead made it 100x worse. My family and I will not be back to visit this once loved shop by us. If you have young children, or remember what it’s like to have young children, I encourage you to spend your...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this place! Not sure if he was the owner but he was very welcoming and knowledgable. Gave us a sample cup of their hot chocolate and I have to say it was so rich and chocolaty. So yummy! The hot chocolate is definitely worth stopping in for. This Is a cute little shop, reminded me of a comfy little malt shop, complete with stools at the counter, tables and a section with couches so you can relax and enjoy the yummy hot chocolate or other chocolate treats that they sell. Their truffles are almost too beautiful to eat...ALMOST! 😁 They have a good selection of chocolate treats including chocolate crumbs mixed with toffee or Chile (they have other mixes) to sprinkle over your ice cream. We had to buy a bag of what they call smelter which is basically scraps of all their different chocolates in a bag (dark, milk and white). I can't wait to make hot chocolate from it or sprinkle some in my coffee. I recommend stopping here while in Durango Colorado, you will NOT be disappointed plus we got excellent customer service. Thank you sir for the pleasant experience. If you read my review, please hit the like button. Thank...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed delicious coffee and chocolates here while we were in town for our honeymoon (driving through to Mesa Verde National Park). The building and bar is gorgeous and you can see them making the delicious treats in back. I had an awesome coffee (can't remember the name but it had coffee shavings on top...if they ask if you want them...just say yes!) made by a quirky and very friendly gentleman. The whole experience was so positive that we not only bought chocolates to go (after having a few truffles and a delicious cookie with our coffee) but I also ordered a gift basket for my husband to remind him the delicious local food in Durango. The basket had such a fun variety (the River Bottom chile is spicy!) and it just brought us back to memories in the mountains. Thank you Animas team and to those looking at this review, do yourself a favor and go get some chocolate. 2020 was a toughy and 2021 aint looking so good either...we all could use...
