I noticed that the hostess was bored. When we were seated, I noticed the 3% surcharge note on the menu and scanned the QR code. Then I noticed that all but two of the steaks had been removed from the menu. I ordered a strip steak (kind of a garbage cut, but the best cut that survived the culling of the menu). I commented to my wife that all of the good steaks were gone from previous years. Perhaps management had done this as a cost cutting measure from the massive money printing our government has engaged in for the last 15 years. We lamented to slow deaths of our local restaurants that had made the same move. Then I noticed that our server was mostly ambivalent. After ordering, I read the linked page about the 3% surcharge and commented that making it a surcharge seemed like a sneaky, underhanded way to raise your prices 3%. When the kitchen staff brought our food to the table, they seemed surly and a bit annoyed. Then I noticed that our server was rarely around to be seen, and slow to respond to requests. When the check came, I saw the note that gratuities are shared by all staff, and it all came together for me. None of the staff really cared because nobody benefited from caring about the customer. In previous years, we have eaten at Steamworks not less than two times in the week we spend in Durango. I didn't finish my steak. It was okay. We did not return for a second meal. It wasn't worth it. One of the highlights of Durango for me has been meals at Steamworks. That's over. It is possible that management will rectify their error and save the business. Time will tell. I really miss the Filet Mignon - it was a near-spiritual experience. It...
Read moreIvy was our server and she was on point! She was slammed but still met all our needs quickly and efficiently. She is a freaking rockstar!!! One of the best servers I’ve ever had! Now the food, omfg! Best Burgers I’ve ever had! I had the whiskey something burger and it was….there are now words…. For lack of better words, it was amazing. By far, my favorite burger that I’ve ever had in my entire life. This place is a little pricey, however it does not disappoint. In my opinion, it’s worth The extra dollars you spend to have excellent service and Great food, not like Applebee’s or Olive Garden but like really actually great food. This place is amazing. I’m gonna come back here as often as I can because I can’t wait to try the French dip next time. And to top it off when we paid, she ran the card at the table immediately like as soon as he handed it to her, she just ran it right there and my fiance left the tip! Honestly, I’m kind of amazed at about not having to wait for the check because waiting for the card to come back is always a dread for me because I’m always ready to go out for a smoke, but that was so fast and awesome so Ivy thank you again teamwork you’re awesome! I didn’t get to taste the alcohol on the menu however, next time I plan on getting a dirty goat or the skittle thug any place that has drinks with those names has got to be worth a visit, right? This restaurant is fabulous. I highly recommend you check it out. I’m definitely...
Read moreParking was problematic for this restaurant. Only a few parking spaces are reserved for the restaurant and they were occupied. We parked 3 blocks away, working up an appetite as we walked in beautiful weather to Steamworks Brewing Company.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our drinks came quickly. Unfortunately, they got busy and forgot to put in our appetizer first. It arrived with our entrees. We had too much food at once, and boxed what we did not eat - most of the appetizer (excellent cheese beer bread and good taco chips - we ate all of the spinach artichoke dip which was very good), and some of the Indonesian Peanut Salad (noodles and cucumbers - this was an excellent salad). Young niece finished her Nathan’s hot dog with apple slices & Peanut butter. She liked all of it!
Husband finished his bacon cheeseburger - after he took off the pickles he didn’t ask for and patiently waited for the mayonnaise & lettuce he ordered. It was cooked as requested - medium, and not over cooked. He also got regular fries. He ordered the Cajun fries. They got him the Cajun seasoning to sprinkle over the fries, making them Cajun fries. Would have preferred the fries prepared properly. They tasted good both ways. I enjoyed my house salad with the vinaigrette.
We enjoyed our lunches, and might be back. The staff was attentive to our needs once we pointed out what was forgotten or late. The food was good, and we left feeling full...
