It's such a cute and amazing place! We have done both Dine in and take out and have enjoyed it each time. They have great food (and portions) for their prices, especially if you go the route of sharing a plate with someone! Their combos are also amazing, and have been a gift to my family in a time when we're too busy and too tired to put together a meal every night. They feed my family of 3 for two days of dinner, lunch, and dinner! (Keep in mind we have two smaller eaters and one medium eater). So far we have at the carnitas and barbacoa combos, and both have been delicious. It comes with so much, too! A big serving of the meat, tortillas, caramelized onions and cooked jalapenos to add (separated, so you can choose to add them or not), separate pint containers, one filled with (delicious!) refried beans and the other filled with rice (Mexican rice w/ corn and peas), AND a whole BUNCH of limes! (I am not exaggerating about the limes, it's a whole tin of them) The dining experience was just as wonderful! The lady who served us was lovely and very casual. The restaurant itself is cute and small, with some of its food plastered around the walls. Just a very cute place (maybe not the most pristine or high-status but I'm not really looking for that, though their atmosphere could use some coordination / a bit of cleaning for the eye, but I don't care too much about that), and we also love walking down and ordering their breakfast burritos! My family and I love this place, though their hours of operation in the morning haven't been the most reliable, which could be due to their hours not being updated on Google or personal financial reasons. I'd hate to see this place go under and not get the chance to flourish to its full potential. Give it a try! They've also got some good parking in the back so you don't have to strain yourself with Broadway...

Please support this Denver institution by eating here and I realized that when I arrived this morning to get my hundredth or so breakfast burrito from Catrina's only to see a sign saying it's closed down for financial reasons (keep reading because it was open again later today). I was gutted, I literally stood a full minute on the sidewalk staring at the sign thinking "No! No! No! It can't be closed, it just can't!" I felt exactly like I had just lost a good friend. But it's not closed?! Let's hope for the best and assume it's business as usual now. Why is this so important? You will pay just as much at the grocery store or more for a clearly inferior product. Solid, ready to go breakfast burritos are available for a pittance. She could raise the prices 50% and it would still be a deal and I would still frequent this place. She's never taken advantage of us year after year and we need to reciprocate! The food is worth it and how fun is it to enter a restaurant and see about 50 brilliantly vivid "pictures" on the wall of many of the dishes served here, you're guaranteed to want to eat here as you salivate at those pictures. The breakfast burritos are the best quality deal in the whole metro area but the tacos stand up well as does the gordita and the Machete. There's wayyyyy more items to choose from in the adventurous menu. We all should know by now that restaurants are struggling more than usual and here's one that you never need to make as a special expenditure because you pay just as much or more for frozen Mexican food at the grocery store that sucks!! Do you really want to lose this privilige and feel so much emptier like I was this morning?! This woman works hard and has earned our full support. The food and joy of feeling like you didn't even spend anything...
Read moreCame in alone on a whim when I got hungry running an errand. The owner’s family(?) were only ones eating when I came in for a late lunch; it felt warm, cozy, and family-friendly right away. I quickly had my drink, chips, and salsa from my kind and attentive server Mariana; the salsa tasted SO FRESH and had me eager for the main event. A few other customers came in, including a family with a small child whose needs as a wee one were asked about right away. Family friendly indeed!
Although the menu says the three enchilada combo is chicken, beef, OR cheese, Mariana let me know I could have one of each and recommended the red sauce. I’m glad I got to enjoy all three! The chicken and beef, in particular, were juicy and flavorful with a rich blend of spices. The gentleman I can only presume owns the restaurant also came over a couple of times to check on me and ask how I was enjoying my meal. The serving was HUGE, and I left with enough food for dinner tonight as well. Including my tip, I spent here what I’d have spent on two trips through a drive-through, and this was MUCH tastier.
There are a few places in this part of town I like to visit/shop, and I strongly suspect I’ll be back for more the next time I’m near. I didn’t see all the rave reviews about the birria until AFTER my amazing enchiladas had arrived. Thanks for a delicious, filling, and friendly...
