High on the Hog BBQ and Sweets — Restaurant in Eugene

2 stars all around. Close until 3:30pm which Google didn't tell us. They were out of tri-tip which was why we stopped in. The counter person was not overly rude, but also definitely not friendly. The portions of brisk and ribs were pretty small: the brisk was dry, the potato salad tasted like winco red skinned brand out of the box. I'm a cook, so maybe I'm bias in my judgement of other people's food. The strawberry lemonade was bitter, and tested like the cheap bottled brand from Walmart. The slaw was quite bland, but that's actually better than overly sweet, as I've had in other places. The chicken wings were really good though, and so was the banana pudding. Inretrospect we should've just ordered kids meals, the portions were the same, but the price was cheaper. I LOVE a good BBQ and would've really loved if this place had done well. It's in a great location, and there so much potential there. I hate being a critic if I could help it, but I'd also hate to see someone else waste a lot of money here and leave to find food elsewhere. I was really disappointed with this bbq place. I asked the guy working if I could have a sample of the Mac n cheese and he said no and later explained it’s because of the area, people that aren’t customers come in and try to get samples, which I understand but man I wish I would’ve been able to try it because the Mac n cheese was horrible. The burnt ends were a little dry, and not very fatty like most burnt ends I’ve had. The coleslaw and toast was probably the best part of my meal. With that being said the coleslaw was just okay. I ordered a sweet tea, and it was so watered down and hardly sweet. My husband loved mac n cheese and got two orders of it and only hate 1/2 of one...

Bbq sauced wings so dry...way too dry. What good is the homemade BBQ sauce when there's hardly any on it. So much for giving it a try.

After creating this review, I was told that I could have just asked for more sauce. I would have loved to, if the counter was manned. 5 wings I to it, and I didn't see anyone at the counter to even ask. I didn't even finish my wings...they were just boring. And to add, if you are going to the trouble of making your homemade BBQ sauces, why hand out a Hidden Valley Ranch cup? Im just saying, I've had better wings at...
