Yeah, believe what everyone else says about the bad service at this Freddy's; it's a mess (though sometimes it can be fine too). Here's my recent experience if you want to know more.
So, despite several poor experiences with this Freddy's; every 6 or so months we'll give them another try (steak burgers and custard just sound so good sometimes).
Anyhow, during this visit, we ordered our food (our cashier was helpful in getting our order in) and the food came out pretty quickly (

While the food was fresh, the meat was as thin as an envelope and so thin, in fact, that the edges that stuck an inch out from the bun were thinner than paper and resembled what would be left at the bottom of a pan when you remove a fully cooked piece of beef.... the hardened grease. I got what was called the "double" and it probably was less meat than a single patty on a child's burger at any other burger establishment. The french fries are typical for a northern food establishment, as for some reason this type of fry goes over big up there, but why bother chopping a whole potato into tiny strings and deep frying them so there's absolutely nothing but potato colored grease strips to bag up. The best thing about this place is their signature "famous fry sauce", which is just ketchup and mustard mixed together with some added paprika and turmeric. They also have cheese curds too, which, if done right, are amazing. These were not. There is little to no batter on any piece of cheese, and all are soggy at best. They're put right on top of each other, into a box, to soak back in any moisture they generate, so they are soggy and really gross. I've had incredible cheese curds before. These aren't even a close attempt at TRYING to be legitimate cheese curds.
I watched the woman in front of me at the drive thru, either BE slow or GET slow service, but when she was being handed her food, the employee DROPPED her custard and it fell straight down to the curb (without splilling) and the employee pointed to it and pulled his head back in to the window, and the woman pulled her car forward and to the right, just enough to get out and retrieve her custard. WHY?! Why did this restaurant employee not just give her a fresh custard?! That's disgusting....and I still allowed myself to try the food. I should have taken that as an omen....that, and the fact that there were only two cars in the parking lot, next to a Chili's and a small nonchain Thai restaurant with a parking lot full of cars, in front of both places on either side. Stupid me! I was just curious. The place is called Freddy's Frozen Custard. Maybe they should just stick to custard, because their hot food is seriously lacking in substance, especially considering the price they're charging. Stay away. You cannot afford to eat here in this economy. You get more for your money...
Read moreThis Freddy’s used to be one our favorite family treat spots but after our experience last night, I don’t know we will be coming back😔
We arrived close to 7:40 for a quick bite and treat. Right when we walked in,I wanted to turn around based on the smell and overall feel of the place. My family convinced me to stay so we waited for about 10 minutes to order with just two other guests in front of us.
There were what seemed like two employees running the front and drive through that seemed to be hustling with the remaining 4+ employees in the kitchen looking like they were confused out of their mind and could care less that there was a dining room filling up and drive through customers coming inside to check the status of their order.
Not surprisingly, based on the 6 other frustrated groups awkwardly waiting in the lobby, our order took 20+ minutes-missing both kids meal fries and another side we had requested but seemed to not make it on the receipt. We didn’t feel like waiting any more so just brushed it off, ate what we got and went to Mc Donald’s for our ice cream treat.
Two things that really bothered us about the experience…
No employee seemed to care that there were people waiting or gave any acknowledgement to those waiting 30+ minutes ahead of us unless they came and bothered them at the counter.
Cleanliness. I mentioned that is smelled nasty but also, while waiting for our food, there was an employee out in the parking lot hanging in their car (assuming on break) but as he was coming in, he walked up to a car in the side parking lot that honked at him. After doing whatever he was doing there, he came in the restaurant, entered the kitchen and grabbed an ice cream cup proceeding to make orders…no gloves, no washing hands. ew.
There didn’t seem to be any kind of leadership or management happening which is even more concerning as no one was being held accountable for efficiency or basic hygiene protocol.
All this to say-we really just hope this review makes it to the right eyes because based on the super awkward and unpleasant vibe during our visit, they’re looking at loosing more than just a few loyal customers. We’d love to come back but not until there is an obvious change...
